My DH and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. We are thinking about going back to Ocean City, MD for 5 days in July. We are thinking about trying Castaways. Is the premium area near the water worth the extra money? It will cost $100.00 extra for that area of the park for the five days. Although we have kids, they will not be coming with us. The DS will be at boy scout camp that week and our DD is over 18 and will be working. Our rig is 40 feet with 5 slides. Any opinions or thoughts? BTW, we have no interest in Frontiertown - too crowded and the sites are too close together.
Club Castaways sites are ok and you will be at the closest CG to Ocean City MD (on Maryland side) It is quite pricey, but everything is new. Another option a bit further away with larger sites at half the price is Island Resort CG A very nice CG with sites situated on a lake. Very clean and quiet.
We enjoyed Castaway's, and would definately return. We stayed in the interior section, across from the store / swimming pool, and felt with our trailer opened to 30 foot, we had adequate room to spread out, even with our awning down, our Easy-Up canapy up, and 2 cars parked in the site! Although we did not stay in the premium area, it did look nice. I personally would not choose to spend the additional money on that area. Good luck and enjoy!
When we were there last summer, the Club Castaways section didn't look that appealing. Near the water might be nice, but pretty much full sun. I thought that the nicest spots were down in the SE corner by the jet ski/boat rental dock. At least there you trees large enough to provide some shade. We were in the interior section. The sites there were good sized.
Yes, it is a bit pricey. But what in the Ocean City area isn't?

Yes, they are worth it. We go there often because it is very close to our home and convenient for a quick weekend get-away. It is a wonderful facility, which is very well-managed.
Yes, the Club Castaways spots are more pricey, but they are also close to the water, they are much larger, and there's usually a nice off-shore breeze. When the interior of the park is very hot, the CC spots are often quite comfortable.
