I don't think I'd go to this extreme for even a 1 mpg increase: Semi Boat Tail

This is good information: Automotive Aerodynamics I think our TCs are up there beyond the Hummer in drag area.

This sounds real interesting as a TC DIY mod: Aero Blows

But, if I could find something to keep the dirt off the end of my TC, I'd go for that! (See my signature pictures). Wasn't there some kind of deflector put on station wagons in the 60's to keep the back window clean?

Ok well I guess I'm one of the few who has added Airtabs to his rig.
First as far as better gas mileage, sorry don't think so. If there is any it's not a heck of a lot.
When it comes to better handling on the road, yes I feel it helps. On my recent trip down to Florida on I-95 had no problems with the big rigs blowing past.
Also I have found that the rear of my camper does stay a lot cleaner.
The photo shows the tabs on the rear of the truck but also how clean the back of the camper is after three weeks on the road.

You want a tapered back camper? Buy an old Hornet or Coachman.

Was it difficult? And how about the roof, do you have a rubber membrane roof? I'm thinking of putting them on mine just to have a cleaner rear end.

Avion travel trailers looked like an airstream trailer but the aluminum was a satin finish anodized look. Avion used to make truck campers in the 1960's with the rear rounded like the trailers.

If you have to worry about the fuel mileage you shouldn't have a camper.....Sorry I don't meant to sound negative, but some things just cost $$.........live with them or live without them.........TD

I was wondering the same thing as geewizz. Did those pretty chrome "wings" on the old wagons do anything?
Could do the boat tail thing. Just think of it as a ramp, a rear awning and side privacy screens all rolled into one!
What about dimples like a golf ball???
