Good idea. Question for all you DIY'ers. How do you attach the large wire connectors to the wire? I don't have any crimpers that large and in the past I've soldered them on using a propane torch, it works well but you certainly won't be doing that in and around the battery.

Best $30.00 ever spent was a hammer type crimp tool. Quick Cable "Brute". Does from 8ga to 4/0. Not a fan of soldering heavy cables on mobile applications -seen to many failures right next to the lug. I don't use a hammer typically though -usually put the crimper in my bench vise and squeeze so I have more control. In the field would use a hammer....and have!

A recent addition to moderate priced crimpers is the Harbor Freight hand held hydraulic crimper. LINK

Got mine here.

Also like the electric distribution products VTE sells. they are priced competitively and have covers available.

I used solder with a torch. The copper ends I used are made to be solderd. I did not have a crimp tool that big either...

Good stuff Mapguy. Too bad this will be buried in this monster thread within a few days.

Cheaper ones can be found, one whack does it. Been using the same one for 20 years.

In the last week I've done:

Serviced batteries and added Quick Fill system
replaced my single Venture lading gear with the dual conversion kit (awesome)
added JT strong arm kit.

Looking for wheels now. Original owner put G rated 235/85R16 tires on the factory D rated wheels. Thats in another thread.

I added a Voltminder to monitor DC voltage. Factory light battery monitor just lied!

Got some milk out of the fridge from this past weekend. Thinking of everything I'll have to clean out of it before the new one arrives!
