According to one of the post, What is the difference between the red version and the yellow version. I noticed at Costco they had a red one for sale, but on the Champion website they only show a yellow one? One of my friend said the difference as The "red" version does not have a circuit breaker - it depends upon the 450 ms overload in the inverter module to shut down if rated power is exceeded. The "yellow" version has a 13.3 amp circuit breaker that will trip above 1600 watts after about 5 seconds. Please produce some more attachments about the topic to view detail information.

Your posts go to a link to sell it online. However, what you have stated is exactly right. The 450ms (both of my modules have been replaced) allows for a better chance at starting those marginal loads. I have been able to start my skill saw and pancake compressor without issue, where previously that was not possible.
And I'm not sure why, but Champion does not have an easy way for finding out about the 73538i model (red, sold by Costco) on their website, but here is a direct link to that model. I have a pair of them with the parallel unit.

Hello all.
This thread has been some good reading thanks for all the info.

Now for my question/s.

I'm seriously debating on purchasing two of these from Costco. A friend of mine has two Honda eu2000i's that he uses when we dry camp has to run them parallel to get his AC going it's a 15k unit. My biggest concern is whether the CPE's will be able to run my 15k unit. I'm at altitude and from what I've read it's kind've hit or miss. Some of what I've read is that people have no problem running their 15k unit but others have problems running their 13.5k unit. One of my concerns is that I have not seen a jet kit for the CPE's and only one post about someone calling Champion and they said to regap the sparkplug to .20. Anyone have a 15k btu AC unit and using these generators to run it? I'd prefer not to buy an aftermarket hard start kit but if it saves me a $1k it would be worth it.

I will be using it mostly at elevations in the 6500-8500ft range and I would guess that I wouldn't need them all of the time it usually cools off nice in the mountains. Of course I will want to charge my batteries as well.

Thanks for any input. My converter is a 9800 series wfco if that makes any difference.

Hmm, my camping experiences at 7,000 to 9,000 ft in Colorado during July and August is limited to about three times, but I've never had need for A/C in the mountains.

If a hard start capacitor would help, is $25 for a Supco unit too out of reach?

Regardless, I don't know what a 15k A/C would do to a parallel Champion setup. I only have a 13.5k a/c.

I've had to rejet my carb'd ATV for Taylor Reservoir, and found that to be fun (sarcasm off) so I'd rather do a capacitor than rejetting a pair of generator carbs.

Hard start caps are cheap.

If you're really cheap and patient you can order a SPP6E knockoff on eBay for about $10 from china.

nothing will substitute for rejetting the carbs
some day I'm going to rejet my scooter so it runs better at higher altitude
and I mean 5000-6000 ft not higher
the dang thing is jetted for sea level
think I will rejet for 2500-3000 ft
try to hit a compromise point

I just placed an order for a Category 5 gen from CPE. It apparently is gray instead of yellow. It is also rated for 1700 continous watts instead of 1600. Other than that, it look identical to the yellow ones. Does anyone have any experience with this unit?
