Well did the maiden quick trip this weekend and it was perfect. Now I now what everyone means about that big windshiled and the view out of it. Went to the Adirondacks in northern NY and it was picture perfect! Now DH doesnt like to drive for any length of time, never did anyways and when we camped or just went on vacation I do most of the driving. Sooooo I had my first lesson on the big rig and if I say so myself did well. My question to the ladies out there is, how many of you share the driving with hubby? Any tips for me as I keep plugging along learning about this new EXPERIENCE!!!??? I just love this new venture we have taken upon us and it wont be hard at all in 3 years to become a full timer!!!!

My DW takes first shift in the morning driving for several hours. Her main issues she learned and I totally agree. 1) Know what your height is and 2) Don't trust your B/U cameras, look before backing. She has driven by herself and backed coach from the road through the gate and onto RV pad on our land in Oregon without use of a spotter.

My DW does not but I wish she would. She keeps waiting for the perfect time to give it a try and it never seems to happen.

My wife will if I insist - otherwise I do 100% (I don't insist) - BUT she did go to a driving school with a professional OTR driving instructor - she did seem a little "miff'd" one day when he had her parallel park it though...

My wife has driven and has setup camp alone for three travel trailers, a fifth wheel, and now the motorhome and toad. She is an excellent driver. We would not be able to travel like we do if she did not help drive.

Isn't the view from the cockpit just amazing? I am thrilled that you are experiencing such fun and excitement with your new MH. I have driven ours, not too much, but enough to be able to drive forward, enter and exit the interstate and get into a fuel station. The only advice I can give is to remember that your turning point is at your hips, mark your windshield so that you know your position in the traffic lane and keep inmind that the rear will swing out a bit when turning.

There is a very good run-down of tips on driving here somewhere, I can't remember who wrote it, but do a search and you will pick up some very good advice.

I do all the driving in ours. DH is a fine driver, and does all the Jeep driving, but in the MH he likes to look around at the scenery, read maps, make phone calls, etc. It is easier for me to do it, cuz I like to, am not easily distracted and don't mind concentrating. He is the best hand-signal giver in the entire world. We can maneuver into just about any spot without making a sound.

It took a couple of years but the DW drives nearly 1/2 the time now.

When we had one, I drove it. Now I drive this (see sig pic). DH falls asleep at the wheel, so years ago we decided that I would do all long-distance driving.
