no pop-up windows, no google ads, no internet explorer.
Agreed!
I've been using Firefox for 7 or 8 years, I guess. Never a problem.
I think I uninstalled Windoze Internet Explorer, or at least killed the desktop icon. There would be the devil to pay if someone booted up IE on my computer.

It depends on which browser/version you are using? Most likely it's Internet Explorer(IE).
For IE8, click "yes" as your not blocking any page elements directly related to the Forums.
Other browser's handle this warning differently. For instance, Firefox will also display a warning if set to do so, but you can easily disable this warning in the future by un-checking the option in the popup. Firefox will still warn you of unsecured info. on a secure page with the "padlock" warning on the lower task bar. IE also allows you to disable future popup warnings, but to do so, you have to go into browser options. Note that in the particular case of these Forums, you won't see this popup warning even if enabled, if you have Firefox's AdBlock Plus extension installed, as it apparently blocks the root cause of these security warnings.
Chrome doesn't use a pop at all, and is the least intrusive by default, simply displaying a warning triangle directly in the address bar if set to do so.
I've also previously posted the way to disable this warning popup in IE here, and have been criticized by some members for doing so. So the decision is yours if you want to tolerate the popups or not? Yes, they do serve a purpose, but it's clear that other browser's handle this issue differently than IE, and manage to do so in a less annoying manner.
So what is the root cause of these security popups on the Forums? IMO, it's the text link ads, whose resources are apparently loaded on secure pages even if you don't see them. I posted a chart containing the files that were loaded in Internet Explorer, when going from an insecure Forum page, to secure "Private Messages" link here. Notice that the only insecure resources are those associated with the text link ads. This would further be supported by the fact that you don't get these security warnings in Firefox with ADBlock Plus(ABP) extension installed, as it is designed to block the specific text link ad resources from being loaded into the browser in the first place, not simply block the display of these ads as is the case of the current version of Chrome. Which is likely the reason Chrome still displays a warning even with ABP extension installed.
It's unfortunate, but something that most web designer's know too well, that you have to design your site with the focus on IE compatibility. Whereas IE is still the predominant browser in use, it does not support functionality as universally, or some might argue logically, as other major browsers such as Firefox.
