Another recall due to salmonella. Isn't ANYONE getting there has to be a common ingredient that is causing all these recalls?
VERY interesting I heard this on the news, yet it is NOWHERE on the FDA site. Albeit it is a voluntary recall BUT FDA did test it and found salmonella. So why is it not on the FDA site for all to see?
I also wonder how many VETS know of this recall? This food is supposed to be one of their prescription diets sold at vets office.
Procter & Gamble Recalls 2 Iams Cat Food Lots
Dry Cat Food Could Be Contaminated With Salmonella
POSTED: Sunday, July 25, 2010
UPDATED: 1:22 pm EDT July 26, 2010
CINCINNATI -- Consumer products giant Procter & Gamble Co. said Sunday it is voluntarily recalling two lots of Iams brand prescription renal dry cat food because it could be contaminated with salmonella.
The products are available by prescription through veterinary clinics.
No illnesses have been reported, but an FDA analysis identified positive results on two lots of Iams Veterinary Formulas Feline Renal 5.5 lbs: numbers 01384174B4 0 19014 21405 1 and 01384174B2 0 19014 21405 1.
Codes are found in the lower right corner on the back of the bag.
Anyone owning the food should throw it out. Pets can become infected and people handling the dry pet food can become infected with salmonella as well if they do not wash their hands. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors and others with weakened immune systems.

Hmmmm, maybe they should be putting their money into their own manufacturing plants so salmonells tainted food doesn't reach the pet population,
instead of lobbying for 'less' stringent food safety requirements.
Procter & Gamble Spent $1.1 Million Lobbying In 2Q
POSTED: Monday, July 26, 2010

WASHINGTON -- The Procter & Gamble Co., maker of Old Spice, Tampax and Iams products, spent nearly $1.08 million in the second quarter to lobby the federal government on food safety, foreign trade and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.
Does anyone see a recall on the IAMS home webpage?

Yup, I'd be wanting to buy pet food from a company that won't even post a recall that could be deadly to your pet on their home page.
We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
Recalls of this type are handled through the mfg and distributors that sell us the food. They either email, fax or send mail notifications. With this level of recall the FDA is notified rather than conducting the recall.
Finding the source of the contamination can be a real difficult problem. With multiple sources of raw products and different mfg facilities and people involved, then the delay rquired with culturing all the different possible sources, isolating the exact source after the fact is sometimes impossible.
This is not attempt to justify sloppy mfg techniques, handling and farming, just explaining why finding sources is not easy.
