how 'bout: real-la-tor, filum for your camera, woolif (dog like animal)-
stuff you hear in the Northeast PA region, particularly in Scranton.
The best is: "do you walk to work or carry your lunch?"

I'll have to eschew this thread in the future, as you folks are raising all these specious points while the masses continue binging on "loose" for "lose". I'll give you one chance to do the right thing. I'm taking applications for positions on the "LOOSE" Police Force. PM me with your résumé. All kidding aside, where ARE our teachers? I believe a search of this forum would show folks intending "lose" or "losing" are misspelling those words more often than not. That's ridiculous. and i'm not just taking about peopel who right like this But, rather, folks who otherwise write reasonable well, not to say that I'm an expert. I've probably made a few unintentional errors in this post. Admittedly, I am hung up on this business.

Without an actual search, I'm voting for "it's" as the most misused word, and I'm sure "loose" is way up there too. "Advise" would be popular also.

I think you may well be correct. Still, didn't we all learn to spell "lose" in our very first spelling lessons, coming immediately after "cat" and such three-letter words? Jeez! I'm wondering if schools have actually been teaching kids to spell words more or less phonetically.

I'm leaning more toward the indifference of the student rather "then" any deficiency in the teacher.

That's right. I'd better seperate myself from those that don't spell correctly.

'Jaguar' when it's the car.
It has three syllables, Jag-u-ar. To say the animal, Jaguar, in two syllables 'Jag-whar, I suppose is OK as the animal is native to the Americas, and maybe it should be pronounced the 'American' way, but NEVER the car.
