Is anybody planning to go to Lake Hattie in the next week or so?
Jeremy's photos look pretty enticing, and we're in Denver headed for Yellowstone soon and Hattie would be not that much of a detour. Of course, the wind would need to be blowing, but since it's an unfamiliar place, gale force is not necessary, or even desired. It blows almost every afternoon in Denver; I don't know if it's the mountains (it often rains with it) or thermals or what. Does it act the same up at Hattie? Is it worth even thinking about?

Hey Rice, good to hear from you.
Ohhh how I would love to join you, however my father-in-law is back home and we now have hospice involved. At this point, it's all about palliative care.
There are afternoon thermals/thunderstorms that do pass through Hattie. The gravel is tightly packed yet quite permeable (rain does not form lasting or super-muddy conditions), so I wouldn't worry at all about getting stuck.
I took a quick glance at windfinder http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/laramie_airport&wf_cmp=7 and 4 out of the next 6 days look very promising. If it were me, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Let us know what you decide.

I love hospice. Well, hate that it's necessary, but love that it's there.
That was my last job before we hit the road--processing donations (data entry, basically) in the development department of a nonprofit hospice. My job before that was as general counsel for a state agency. I liked the hospice job better.
I'll keep an eye on the weather as we get closer to leaving, since you said it's a possibility it will cooperate. I like the windfinder link, btw. Except it looks like it's COLD up there. Or not 95 degrees, anyway, which will definitely seem cold.

Yes, I imagine your position at hospice was quite rewarding. This is our second time working with them (Moe's mom) and as before they have been immeasurably helpful. We are in the final stages and they are definitely making better a very difficult situation.
Don't look to Windfinder for temperature--their predictions always seem to be very low--it's almost as if their forecasts are what it will feel like when you're wet standing in the shade without protection from the wind. Accuweather is much more accurate for temps, but don't even look at accuweather wind forecasts---they consistently over-estimate. I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed by accuweather wind forecasts that didn't materialize.

Jeremy, sorry to hear about your father in-law; that is a difficult situation. You are in our thoughts.
We have finally made it out of the house. The month of July was spent packing, cleaning and moving. Could not sell it, so we ended up leasing it out.
Last week we put our remaining things into to storage in Dayton Ohio where both our children live.
We are currently in Minnesota heading towards South Dakota as this will be our domicile. The pic is our first night of freedom after the move spent in Illinois. We are now free to move about north America.
Regards to you and your wife.
BTW; all of the booms, masts, sails, and gear are in the back storage section of the trailer. Couldn't fit the boards so they went on top.

Hey Congratulations Wind Surfer! How does it feel to finally be footloose and fancy-free? BTW, Very nice Rig and clean set-up. We wish you and DW all the best in your new adventure
My father-in-law passed away last Friday. He went very peacefully at home in his own bed, with his dog at his side. DW is doing her best, but I know it's hard--it just seemed so sudden to both of us . . . two months ago we were in Hatteras and he was doing well. Nevertheless, he lived a very full life to ripe old age of 93--the last six years with us and the greater part of the last 3 on the road with us traveling the countryside in the RV. He was an incredibly sweet guy, he was my friend, and I will miss him.

Ok all, we are now in southern Washington and will enter Oregon tomorrow heading for the Columbia River george. We plan on spending 2 weeks there to unwind and I will try to reinvent my windsurfing skills. Wish me luck as I haven't been in the water for 7 years. Like riding a bike, right??

Hi Wind Surfer, thanks to you and Jodee for your kind words in the previous post. Yep, just like riding a bike I'm sure you'll do just fine. Take it easy the first couple days, as you'll be using muscles you haven't worked in some time. Otherwise, have a ball. If you get a chance, would love to see some pics, especially what the camping conditions are like.
