Mr Wiz, as part of the solar thing you do, first you do some charging with chargers and gen.

I imagine with more batteries now but also more solar, it is tricky to get the right balance for morning gen time and enough solar topping done in the remaining daylight.

Can you update on how that is done with the extra solar now (less gen time?) and also update on how the WFCO 100amper is doing, like how long you run it and when it starts to taper etc?
Or put the WFCO stuff in the PowerMax thread?

Thanks

this is the first full day with all four new additions to the system

I don't know yet how much my routine will change

i ran the Onan for 45min this morning, breakfast and coffee and the initial "push" charge

I was getting 12.5 amps at 9:30 by 10:40 it was 18+ by 11:40 19+

sometime before lunch at 1:30 it hit 20.88amps

i ran the onan for 30min at lunch

at 4PM it was showing almost 9amps and 14.4v

the Panels will soon be in the shade and will start the portable champ for supper and a couple of hours of top off

right now the Turnigy is showing 10.52amps, 14.4v 152w as of 4:44 pm PDT

i'll wait for sundown for the totals

but it looks like this will keep cut my generator time ( in good weather spring & summer ) to mainly cooking time

i'll have a better handle of the situation in a week or so,
then it will change when we start our summer travel to the Midwest with rain & thunderstorms every week

Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

That will be fantastic if it does that. Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

todays totals, first day with all panels
clear sunny 67*F

134.76 amp Hrs

1856.0 Watt Hrs

20.88 Peak amps NO lensing

288.7 peak watts

this was very nice, if i can repeat these numbers on a regular basis, i will be happy, this should cover 24 hrs of normal NON A/C use
use the generators for big draw items and morning boost

what was really nice was the mid-morning to after lunch amps, this is what really boosted the daily total

As promised pictures

roof top showing all panels, panels in foreground are the original pre existing panels

3 panels on right, 37w each, first purchase
2 panels on left , 60w each second purchase

4 panels far forward ( one is in front of A/C unit ),42w each latest purchase just installed

view from front, close up of this install
1 on left front of pic, 1 center in front of A/C
2 on right side of pic front

THAT... is a real thing of beauty!

Glad you pointed out the hidden, front/center panel... as if I wasn't already coveting your setup as it was.

Thanks for the pictures and of course that leads to questions:
Are all of the Unisolar panels compatible and in parallel or?
Are the prior panels on a separate controller and batteries or?
And your view on shadows: I see the AC potential of shadows on 5 panels during the day depending upon orientation.
The one higher vent could effect the adjacent panel.
And the antenna on the front although small...

i've been LUCKY, to find these batches of compatible panels
all from unisloar all the same voltage but at different amps & watts

almost 19 months in the doing, sept 25 2010 to april 2012

when i started i could NOT have just plunked down cash for for 360w of thin film panels and (2) working controllers

even opting to buy $2watt items would have meant large wattage high voltage panels and a new high $$ controller

panels are down to a $1 a watt but you still get nailed needing a pricey MPPT controller

although those cynergy panels in another thread did tempt me, but they were a week too late, i had already bought these

buying peace meal over time I have about $900 invested in 9 panels and (2) quality controllers, the 2000e installed and the C40 as backup

sometime during the summer i might swap controllers just to get a performance comparison
