Hey,

3 steps away "newbie" status but a little bored here at work, and I'm trying to estimate how much our gear will weigh for the average Friday-Sunday camping trip.

My Stats:

Wifey and myself
Teenager daughter
8 year old son
infant
bring along friend for either of the two older kids

I'm trying to think of everything from Lynx levelers to plastic forks, food, blankets, clothes for everyone, tolietries, 4 chairs for the fire pit, beer, Bible, awning lights, Pack and Play for the little guy- you name it.

I came up with 600 pounds. This sound right to everyone?

How much can a pair of clean socks and underware weigh?

man, that is a loaded question....like how big is big.

It will vary all over the map, depending on activities you have planned, time of year and how much you will eat out vs at the trailer....

It could be a few pounds to a few hundred pounds.

Teenage daughter...600 lbs of gear right there...

Just find the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of your trailer..that's how much weight to figure.

Without the bikes, I'm packing 780 lbs of stuff in the camper. 240 is the 30 gallons of city water in the fresh tank. Fridge stocked and cooler of beverages.

It' wife, 12 year old, 9 year old, 20 lb dog and me in the tow vehicle. Probably 500 lbs added to tow vehicle.

1200 lbs added to the whole thing.

Yea I agree, its a loaded question LOL -

I weighed my 2007 Expedition EL earlier this morning with a full tank of gas it came in at 6360 lbs. When I factor in my weight, the rest of the family, the total GVR for the Expedition is at 7000lbs. 879 under the GVWR limit.

The Spree 324BHS with all the options factored in (LB's) and full propane, and and estimated cargo of 600 pounds still falls short of the GCW (15,000) lbs by 120 pounds. This does not include the fresh water however. I know i'm cutting it close however with a good Equi-lizer hitch I feel I've done the proper homework ( WITH ALOT OF HELP) and will be ok. Any nay sayers out there?

Most of our gear stays in the trailer. Only thing we add is fresh bedding/towels, clothing, shaving kit/cosmetic bag, some food, bottled water/sodas/1/2 tank fresh water/26" LCD TV. It doesn't really matter how long we'll be on the road, we have jackets/extra shoes in trailer. We never take more than 7 sets of clothing, do laundry if necessary. Food we buy as need at w/m.

Total additional weight, approx < 100 lbs.

LOL! I was going to say 600 lbs would be the weight in beer alone for a weekend trip!

NAY

879lbs under GVWR is too close.

Add the tongue weight and you're over GVWR. Add one of your kid's friends and you're over more.

120 lbs under GCVWR? I think you mean 1200. I'm 1600 under mine.

That trailer will weigh what, 6500 lbs?

Now we haven't even touched on how the 5.4L will tow all it's own weight PLUS the trailer. On level ground and no wind, it will do it.

Hit some head wind, some hills and get ready for 6-7mpg. Hot summer towing? Get a temp gage for the tranny before it boils.
