I used a metal polish compound applied with a pad attached to a drill.
It cleaned up nicely and then I used some jewelers rouge which I got at Homey Depot. Made everything look sparkly. I think it needs doing again though.
I bought the McGuire's kit and polished the cloudy lights on my 1994 Dodge "B" and it worked very well. I've tried using plastic polish in the past, but that drill-mounted buff is the key to getting it done in a "sane" amount of time. I'd say go for it, it works.
