These covers or lenses of the headlights can get fogged over time from exposure to the elements, leaving them with a semi-opaque film and diminishing their effectiveness. Sprucing up your car headlights helps improve your vehicle's visibility from the driver's seat and on the road. Polishing takes just a couple minutes and some elbow grease, dependent upon how bad the damage is. Resource for this article: How-To: Polishing your headlights. You can polish the covers on your car's headlights to a clean, clear state without having to replace the entire.

One of the magazines to which I subscribe just did a review of the various products for polishing headlights and the writer wasn't very impressed. I found an online source for new headlights. I had a pair for my '99 Dodge Roadtrek shipped to my doorstep for $215.90.

The 3M branded polishing kit is known to work well.
As noted above..even better.. just get a new set of lenses.
Every time I look at my crappy sealed beam square headlamps, I like them more.

I bought a cheap bottle of cream stuff at Dollar General and it works pretty good. Not perfect or like new but it works well for the price. Makes a definite improvement. I used it on my 93 Escort and my 99 F150. No need on my Xplorer.. the whole lens replaces with the bulb.

Blue Magic Headlight Lens Restorer. It mostly talks about removing yellowing but it also clears up the hazing some too.

Thanks for the tip! I got mine at Dollar General for $5.99.
I used this on my 2001 Nissan Frontier headlights lenses tonight. I got the same results! It took no time at all. If I have to use this once a month, I am alright with that.
My 1990 CLASS B does not require this because it has the glass lenses you have to relace when the headlight goes out. I just thought I would post my results if it helps.

The lenses on my 04 RT are/were really badly clouded. I tried the Turtle Wax system and the McGuyer's (sp?) system. Neither would cut the corrosion off the surface. Right now I'm in the middle of the 3M system on one light and it looks like this one will work. I priced new headlights and at almost $600 for the pair I decided to keep trying products until the options are exhausted.

I finished restoring the lenses with the 3M kit today. This kit is used with an electric drill. The first 2 polishing pads are used dry and the third used wet. Finally you use a polishing compound on a sponge pad. The kit includes 6 course pads, 4 medium pads and 1 fine pad and a pack of polishing compound. If your lenses are badly corroded and pitted, I recommend this system highly. None of the other systems on the market would even begin to work.
