Nice report! Good to know. Think I'll add this to the OP.

And I might just have to pick up a few more now. Thanks!
yeah, very nice report! Looks like I'll be buying some of these. I have the basement lights to replace.

I just bought these 24 LED panels on eBay, which I believe are the same as the ones discussed earlier in this thread:

BA15S 1156 1141 Dome Bulb 24-5050 SMD LED,Warm White
BA15S 1156 1141 Dome Bulb 24-5050 SMD LED,Warm White

When I ran them for about 20-30 minutes the LEDs seemed to get very hot. Has anybody had any problems with the heat generated by these guys?

None of them run cool to the touch. But mine run way cooler than incandescent.

Figure this...

In my experience they use about 1/5 the power of incandescent per roughly the same amount of light output.. Therefore one could surmise that an incandescent bulb is losing about 5 times the energy to heat as the comparable set of LEDs. I know that my 1141 incandescents will burn the living cr@p out of my fingers after being on for just a half minute or so. (Well... truthfully... I can't be 100% sure. An experiment is supposed to be repeatable... and I only tried this once!)

My LEDs will be very warm, but will not burn me after running several minutes or more.

So just how hot are we talking here?

I agree with your reasoning on the overall heat load on the fixture. I guess what I was worried about was if the circuit board they are mounted to would melt down, and/or the foam stickies that are used to stick them to the fixture would have problems.

I don't have any way to measure the actual temp, but after reading your reply I did a little test. After the LEDs being on for 30 minutes I could hold my finger directly on an LED for about 5 seconds before it got painful. I could hold my finger on the back of the circuit board indefinitely without it getting painful. Based on that unscientific test I am starting to think the temps are nothing to worry too much about.

Not ultra-scientific, but reasonably practical, IMO.

I HAVE heard of some issues regarding the sticky foam tape on some panels. I don't think it was these or the 36 versions. I haven't had the problem with the one I have in my range hood... and you would sure think it could get plenty hot up in there. I HAVE run the light and all burners at the same time for awhile. Was heating up a bunch of water.

Worst case, I think some guys have had to use a different glue to hold them on to the fixture. It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on them.

And bear in mind that Dave-Sparky has been running his 36 LED units for 8 months for hours at a time with zero reported problems.

My latest effort at keeping the sticky tape on the 36 LED panel stuck to the plastic fixture is roughing up the plastic with sandpaper. So far it's working but the MH hasn't been driven since I did it. Other attempts were sticking a piece of paper on the sticky tape and gluing (Amazing Goop) that to the fixture, worked good. Gluing the sticky tape to the fixture, the glue didn't stick to the tape. Cleaning the fixture with alcohol didn't work.

LEDs I bought from here are doing very well. I've been running them since the middle of 2009.

I ordered a few more after seeing they are having a sale right now until the end of the year.

Hi All.

If you really want to save on your Battery Bank, and have Very Bright LED Lights, ( Not Blueish ) then go with the 36 LED Lights on E-Bay. They sell them for $44.90 for 10 of them. They are very fast Shippers, and are packaged very well. And each LED Light is tested before shipping. Very pleaed with them. They are so nice and very bright, that we have put a total of 30 of these LED Lights in our Motorhome. No more standard power hogs light bulbs for us, as we moslty do all Boondocking. What a big differance in how long our Battery Bank now lasts. Add a very low wattage LCD TV, and we don't use hardly any power now. Well worth the cost of these 36 LED Lights. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

Yes. FYI for the readers, the LEDs posted above are the units I referenced at the top of the OP.
