Yes I did end up with brass copper thought the one I ordered was aluminum but it came next day and cost $340 so i went with it.i also used the remflex gaskets.
See if you can give this guy your opinion on the thorleys maybe from someone who has used them for a couple years
what alot of people dont understand is that alot of us enjoy working on our motorhomes, if i could afford a newer unit, i would have one, but buying an older one for a song, and doing the work yourself, in the end you know what you have and not scared to take them anywhere, i contemplated replacing a front seal on a turbo 400 in my motorhome at a campsite....lol, the only reason i didnt is because it would make a mess, and i respect the campgrounds, so i drove 90 miles home and just kept checking the fluid every 30 miles, as with you Chuck being able to work on your own stuff is worth its wait in gold, and my OLD motorhome is paid off....*grin*

I am sure glad that I put a Banks system on my 97 Bounder with 460 when it was only 1 year old. Now at 14, it has not had any mechanical problems yet. Exhaust bolts and head problems are expensive, and I am glad that I have good headers, and no leaks.
Well to add to the mess I had a starter noise . Well I had finally road tested the beasts ran like a champ sounded great got back to my shop went to start flyweheel just spun. At that point I said oh well I have to pull trans and replace flywheel. Well In the process I had 2 broken bolts that hold trans to block and a cracked trans housing. When I got trans out flyheel was in 2 peices the center sheared in a perfect circle. Oh also the trans was fused to block via corrosion. Took to trans shop and they said the corrosion between block and trans pushed trans back ever so slightly and caused the extra fatigue on flywheel. Well at the $$$$ crossroads again they suggested a rebuild while unit was out so anothe $1400 for trans rebuild and used housing and flywheel. Got all back together road tested all good pull into lot see huge chunk of rubber and metal on ground. Well what do you know its the rubber spring from the tag axle ! 2 springs on order another $500 I hope this is the end !@!@#
Into the beast for $12k now which included the purchase price and all repairs and upgrades.
$5500 Purchase
2 rebuilt cylinder heads, thorley headers, thorely exhaust , New Radiator, New water pump belts hoses, Complete tune up plugs wires cap rotor, Trans rebuild new flywheel , 2 new Trojan 6 volts, Genny new strarter fuel pump regulator exhaust, Rebuild kwikee stairs, Trans temp guage , new stereo and speakers, 32"led tv and mounts , 23 led tv and mounts ,all new metal brake lines and power steering and trans lines, Brand new rear bumper and 2 new tag axle springs , new t moldings thruout new 2 camera color backup system and poliglow . the list goes on so thats $12k in a nutshell.

Well I have 2 trips under my belt 1500 miles total after first trip i repaired the dash movement problem and now I could not be happier rig seems solid went to Richmond and Dover Nascar events had a ball figured I got around 7mpg which was not so bad after all. Thanks to all who encouraged me to forge ahead . In the end I have a unit I feel confident driving.
After several successful trips of over 2000 miles total in early June I took a short 100 mile trip to the Pocono raceway and experianced 2 blowouts. When i bought the unit all tires looked new but showed some dry rot that being said I replaced the 2 fronts and left the rear 6 alone. Well 75 miles into the trip I had a blowout felt like the front jack fell on ground and i was driving over it. Pulled over to side of road used onboard jacks to lift and electric impact wrench and was on my way in record time. Got to the track to find the blowout tore thru the washing machine dryer vent between the rear axle and tag axle no big deal a little sheet metal work was all I thought. Well 2 days later packed up and drove home 5 miles from house i had second blowout on same axle this one did major damage ripped right thru wheelwell into bathroom ripping up plumbing and it also ripped out the basement utility compartment with outside shower. Well It took me about a month and a half to put it all back together all the fabricating and such. Replaced all 6 rear tires and did the body work. Cant tell it even happened. Since the repair i made a 1200 mile round trip to the Bristol Motor speedway in Tennesee all went well. I know its been a lot of work but if not for me cheaping out and not replacing all the tires from the start I would never have had a problem yet. BTW also built a nice homemade genturi on plans I found here. Thanks again to all who encouraged me to fix this unit I now love it !!!
How many miles did your unit have when u bought it? Hearing all this makes me very nervous. My 96 has 88000 miles and 2 PO's. Last one for only last 2 years so I hope the first guy too care of it. How do u spot exhaust and header issues or than ticking when cold? Radiator on mine appears to have a very small leak but i think I'm gonna roll with it for a while. It's been driven 500 miles and only lost very little.
