I was wondering if someone could confirm what I heard this morning.

The rumor is that FMCA has had over 800 cancellations for their convention in Perry. Many of the RV'ers who are canceling are claiming fuel costs as the reason.

It is hard to believe they have had that many cancellations. Especially since they opened the convention to towables. I never knew that this event was that big.

Has anyone heard anything about this ? I know that an RV event I am attending in April is down about 100 registrants ( 50 % ).

I can hardly believe this story. There are over 2970 motor homes here including the dealers displays! Trust me, this place is packed and has been since last Saturday!

The number you are quoting is about ½ of what past events at Perry have drawn, so yes attendance is WAY down. That number is even below what the SEA event in Brooksville used to draw.

These large rallies used to draw 4,000 - 5,000 Class A coaches but the last few years attendance has dropped due to the economy and fuel prices. I believe the declining attendance is the reason the rally was opened up to include towables.

We attended the FMCA rally in Redmond, Or last year and attendance was also below expectations. However, the rally was extremely well organized and we had a really great time.

I did not attend this year as I believe it was earlier this year than previous years. Besides I wanted to attend the Sebring race which is where I am now. Previously I used this stop north from my winter stay in FL.

If it was mid-April I believe they would get many northerners returning north to stop. Doesn't make sense to leave FL now for Georgia and return for a month.

Any opinons from FMCA people that are in FL for the winter?

More people than last year, it was shoulder-to-shoulder in the exhibit halls and quite a few standing in line to get into the coaches on display. It has been a great rally!

I attended the rally in Brooksville and attendance was way down. I talked to numerous vendors who said it was a bad show for them.

I nearly leased a booth myself and am glad I didn't as the foot traffic inside the vendor tent was very low.

It is extremely hard to tell attendance numbers. What looks like a huge amount of people is really not. And vice versa.

If anyone hears from FMCA on this please do post it.

What is strange is that the Tampa RV show was well attended. I talked to several dealers and they said it was one of their best shows to date for selling RV's.

I agree, if they would hold it a month later they'd get better attendance. We lived just south of Perry, but never attended because the weather there in March is so unsettled we never made it.

We attended the SEA FMCA rally in Brooksville, Florida and were treated very badly. They seemed to be trying to keep people away. We only went on a "Day Pass" and found we weren't' even allowed to attend the seminars. It was so bad, I blogged about it and it eventually got the attention of the National FMCA people who apologized and even offered us a free pass for the Perry rally. We didn't go because of the weather and time it was scheduled.

Anyway, if they are so worried about attendance at the Brooksville Rally, I can tell you, they are going about it all wrong.
