While in Fla. I had the large (like a carpenter ant) ants invade the trailer. Boraxo worked for them. The small ants like the liquid Terro and it will do them in quickly.

I've had ants many times in my camper and after trying several remedies I finally tried Terro. I agree with the above posters, it really works. I will tear a small piece of paper and put a few drops on it then place it near their trail and watch them eat. It is a bit discomforting to watch the hordes of ants sit around the bowl (the drop) and eat but keep them fed because they will take it back to the nest and your problem will be gone. I've yet to use it and not solve my ant problem.

When bought my used trailer it was infested with Acrobat ants. You can look it up and see what I'm talking about. These things were small black ants that live in wet wood which my trailer had due to a large leak. I tried spraying the ants which did kill the ones I saw but more kept crawling out. Once I removed all the wood rot and rebuilt the damaged area I started using Terro. Each day I would add more drops because they would eat every last drop. After several days of this my problem disappeared. I had a new problem though. I had small black DEAD ants everywhere.

I got re-infested last season when pulling my camper from storage. After a little investigation I found the ants were crawling up a small bush that had grown up under the camper and was touching the frame. Again, I "terro'd" them and cut the bush. I made sure this year to keep a check on the undergrowth and so far no problems.

We use Terro. When you first set it in their trail, they will have a party and call all their friends. They all drink up as much as they can carry, then it's back to the nest to party hardy! Next day, they're gone. The worst infestation we had was in Florida. Forget the tires, they were coming in on the hose and the electrical cord. From what I understand, it will pretty much kill the colony.

Great suggestions for controlling the ants in the trailer. A more fun way to try outside for controlling around your site is to dump ants from one colony on another and watch WWI commence. Having lived in southern AL, I hate ants, especially fire ants so I really could care less about eradicating them in mass.

X2...If you have an ant problem, you most likely have some moisture somewhere as well.

We very seldom have had a problem with ants, but I have used Terro. I put them where I know our little dog won't get to them. I try not to leave anything out on counters that might interest them and I wipe off the counters often with something like 409 or whatever. I also mostly store stuff in containers with lids and wipe off the syrup bottle, etc. I also feed the dog in the trailer and then rinse out her dish, and then just leave out her water dish.
I agree about fire ants though as we used to live in Texas. They are mean buggers and just one bite can give you problems for a long time.
Keep some Raid ant spray around and spray any openings to the trailer. Good luck.

To keep them from getting in once the problem is fixed.... we spray the ortho home defense or another equivalent around anything on the trailer that touches the ground. We will also spray any ant colonies we see at a campsite (tons of them in myrtle beach). If we are in a heavy ant area (ie the beach) we will also put ant stakes in the ground. Has worked well so far.
