We don't leave anything out unless we are going for a very short trip, hour or less. We want the flexibility to go without returning to the campsite if we run into trouble, emergency at home, weather we need to avoid, or many other reasons.

I will also only leave out a few chairs and a table and maybe the tabletop BBQ but put everything else inside unless its locked down. I once had some one scope out my generator late at night while I was inside my rig and they ran off when I pulled the window open but the gen was cabled to the frame.Another time I heard noise and it was racoons so I try to leave very little out.

One watch out - some CGs consider an extra tent as a "seperate camping unit" amd charge accordingly, even if the tent is just used for storage. Some will not even allow a screen tent.

We own a B, so there isn't much we take. We made the mistake one time to leave our stuff behind and went touring for the day, only to realize, we could have just kept going, but had to return to pick up our stuff. After that, whatever we take out, we put everything back. We make sure our water tanks are full, and black & gray tanks are emptied. If we know we are definitely staying 2 nights, we would leave a orange cone on the site marked "occupied". I'm in the process of making a post sign. I bought plastic "for sale, garage sale" type signs that are water proof for a $1, and will cut them into strips and will write "occupied" on them to clip onto the post. If we decide to keep moving, no loss, and they'll be easy to store. We stay mostly at state or national parks, which cost less then private. It seems over the last 10-15 years you hear more about theft. RV's are loaded with nice toys today that make them easy targets.

We have had a class B Roadtrek for just over a year and have mostly camped at national parks and forest campgrounds. When we leave for the day we usually just leave our folding chairs out. Once, in Arrowhead, we left a small folding table along with the chairs and when we got back the table was gone. Have been more careful since then. Also a couple of weeks ago in the Grand Canyon we came back and found a large party of tent campers next to us and even though we had left chairs out, our firewood was gone. We asked and they denied it but it was pretty obvious. They also thought it was OK to walk right through the middle of our campsite on their way to the bathroom. We are boomers who camped a lot in our youth and have started again in retirement--it seems that campground etiquette is not what it used to be and honesty is not practiced like it was.

We take everything with us when we depart for the day... even if we are returning to the same campsite. I will leave some markings or an occupancy sign to notify others that the site is taken.
Even then manure do occureth.

We don't put out much so there's not much to pack. We store everything the moment we stop using it: time to go to sleep, lawn chairs are put away. We don't carry a lot of stuff to lay out around the campsite. No party lights, either lol. A blue tarp over the picnic table and an occupied sign. Generally, though, we ride our bikes whereever we wish to go from the camp sight. We generally tour, but if we go to one spot for a period of time, I tow the Super Beetle. Nice thing about a B is the option to tow or to not.

Interesting topic. There is one point I don't quite understand though. Some people mentioned that one of the advantages of a B is that you don't have to go back to your camground after your day trip if it's more practical to just keep going. That is true, but then how do you pay for your camping site. If we think we will be staying for 2 days, we pay for 2 days up front. Do you only pay for a day at a time and keep going back to the office day after day ?

The comment by "firewife" about this being a problem for a B - is silly. Big rig campers leave a lot more stuff laying around than we do. We never hook up water or sewer hose, it's not necessary. We usually leave a table cloth clipped to the table and our chairs and grill outside. I never leave the power cable at the site unattended. In 5 years we have only lost a rubber floor mat we use at the entry door. Someone walked off with our leveling blocks once but my wife spotted them and got them back. You will love travelng and camping in your new rig. When we bought our PW Excel new, we had zero experience with RV's and would do it again the same way in a heartbeat.

I've just returned from a 7 month camping trip. Camped mostly at state parks but plenty of private sites as well. I was in my Truck Camper this trip. I have always left stuff out when I leave for the day. That includes, chairs, tables, coolers, various equipment, motor scooter ($), and anything else I happen to have out. I have never had anything taken. In my opinion, the vast majority of campers are a step above general society when it comes to morals. If I had to pack everything up each time I left camp, it would really take away from the feeling of "living a more simple life" that I get from camping. Even if I were to come up missing something in the future, I would chalk it up as an anomaly and not change the way I do it now.
