In the end, we didn't end up buying it. Now we cross our fingers and hope we never wish we had bought it
use the money you would've spent to start a repair/maintenance fund and add $X to that each month.
good luck.

I'm going to cancel my GS Extended Service Plan. In the last two years I've had two claims denied because they were not "Mechanical Failures." In the first claim the turbocharger went out while driving through Utah - $1700. I'm now going to pick up my truck at the Ford dealer after the second denial (6.0 turbo diesel - yes I know) to the turn of $6,000 for a plugged oil cooler and head gasket replacement. If they don't cover that what do they cover? I guess if it isn't a broken hard part it isn't a mechanical failure.

Having that 5 year money back if you don't use it clause would make the decision to purchase the policy a good bet in my opinion. Any horror stories on people not getting their money back? How long have RV insurers been offering this 5 year money back stuff?
To answer your first question--Yes!! We bought a used 5th wheel in 2006 along with a 4yr service contract that was refundable if not used. Last August I applied for my refund and after 6 months of frustration, no refund and the company-Signet Financial Group- shut down. NO REFUND! And the California Attorney General (California company) could not help since the company closed and "no fraud was indicated". HAH! Many people across the country lost their premium as we did and "no fraud". It happened to both RV and auto buyers.
So, if you want to be covered by a service contract go ahead and buy one, but look into the company first. And don't be swayed by a money back guarantee as it probably won't happen!
Same with us - we lost $1,799 - now we have no warranty and no refund.

I bought one and never used it. Because of that I was due a refund of the purchase price. When I went to collect I was told by General RV that the company went out of business about four months prior. General RV sold me the policy. I did not really want it but they high pressured me into buying it, I'm usually good about not being pressured but not that time (my bad). The finance man at General RV said I could not loose, use it and I save money, don't use it and I get a complete refund. I got nothing, lost it all. General RV would do nothing for me. Not even offer me a discount on service or parts. They stated they only offered the policy as a convenience to the customer and they make no money on selling the policy. I say DON'T DO IT! And avoid General RV like the plague.

any insurance is a bet. they bet you wont need it, you bet you do. read the small print, and learn the buzz words that get the warranty ok'd. if you say bent, that probably isnt covered since that is owner abuse. if you say stuck or inoperative, those are ambiguous enough to be ok's. component failure is the word to use for converters, and appliances. i have worked with extended warranties many years, toyota, coachnet, and good sam are good to work with. there are others i dont recall, a service guy that knows the language and reads the small print is your best ally.

Not related to an RV, but in the last 3 years I have cancelled two extended warranties and have gotten a refund with no problem. The first was on my Honda Goldwing - after it was totaled in an accident, I decided to give up riding - Honda promptly refunded my EW money. I then traded in my diesel truck that was used to haul our Airstream and Goldwing (in the truck bed) when we decided to buy the motorhome. Ford promptly refunded my EW money. In both instances, the EW's were factory purchased - not a third party warranty. Those are the only two extended warranties I have ever purchased on any product.

"The finance guy said on his unit that he has had trouble with the hydraulic slides since they are in and out all weekend. He had a whole list of things he had already used his for. "
....and you believed him? Do you think maybe he was trying to sell you a high profit item and spinning a tale?
