Ok now this is the deal WAFlowers. It won't be less money during a camping trip and loss of fun time, well you understand.

When I bought my '01 F350 the cruise didn't work either.
Quick check showed there was a re-call and it was sorted out in a jiffy - hopefully yours is the same.

Checking on the Ford site, it looks like the recall does apply to my truck and may not have been done. Fingers crossed, but this might be a free repair just like you had!

Congrats on your purchase. I hope it works well for the both of you. We just moved from a tt to a 5ver in Jan and have yet to use it. Maiden voyage planned for Memorial weekend just a few weeks away! When we traded in January we also purchased a used 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel. We have always leased our vehicles and going from having brand new to used was a change. When we got the diesel there was also a few things that needed attention (oil change, fuel sending unit, and gasket in transfer case). Those repairs added up to about $800, but we also had to get our hitch installed as well-another $300. We got a great deal on the truck so putting some money into it didn't seem so bad. The good thing about it was that the injectors were all recently replaced and this model was infamous for shotty injectors. I hope your repairs don't cost you an arm and a leg so you can get that boob tube for your wifey! Here's to a wonderful camping season!

Thanks campgrl. There are very few repairs needed, and those are mostly minor things (horn wasn't working; a problem with the switch contacts that was easily corrected). Other than the cruise the biggest items I'm expecting are the maintenance: oil and filter changes, coolant flush and fill and differential.

As I was typing this the service manager called. Rear brake caliper is bad (it stuck on the drive home) but that wasn't unexpected and isn't expensive.

Countdown: 9 days until we pick up the trailer!

In the end we replaced both rear calipers, a rotor, the master cylinder, AC compressor (not a leak after all, and it already had a new condenser and evaporator), water pump and more.

Yesterday we had a Curt Q5 20K hitch installed and a Reflex brake controller as well as a 7-pin connector put in the bed. The rails just cleared the plate which had been welded in to support a gooseneck ball, so now we have both.

Today it is going to a Ford dealer for 2 recalls: the cruise control and camshaft position sensor.

Saturday we get the "new" trailer.

If you take care of the 7.3 , it will take care of you. Still one of the best diesel engines out there. Congrats on your purchases and we all would like a couple of pics when you get them hooked up. Happy camping.

Truck now has an appointment next week to get a Curt Q5 20K 5th wheel hitch and a Curt Reflex brake controller installed, with the plug put in the bed of the pickup.
