In case any of you are wondering,I got my email hacked and am finding it next to impossible to get it back as they have blocked me every which way ,but loose.I have tried everything they have told me to do and you can't get thru to them that they have an incorrect back-up address and you can't get into your address book to get the ones they want.Sent them a note that if they didn't believe who i was, then I'd be contacting them in regards to a lawsuit as I had just been sent some legal papers and they were blocking me from getting them and their reply was do what we asked and you can get them.
Was your email hacked or did your computer pick up a virus? Viruses will do that sort of thing...hijack your email account and send out lots of spam...and then you get shut down and have a heck of a time getting it back (as you are finding out). Hang in there, you'll get it done.
What do you do if you get hacked? Pat Fenwick had that problem awhile back. I wouldn't know where to start! What's the best way to prevent it?

It depends on how it has been hacked. If someone managed to log into your account and sent out a lot of spam, it can be tough (as Jon is finding out). More common though is a virus that gets on your computer and gets your email address book. Then it goes about the long way of sending spam on your behalf. Either way sucks, but getting hacked or hijacked is the worst.
Make sure you have good anti-virus program running all the time and that it is up-to-date. And stay away from sites you don't know and don't open emails from people or websites you don't know. And NEVER click on a link in an email from someone you don't know. Even if you do know them (like your bank), I'd still be very careful and just go to their website directly and not via a link in an email. Many of those can be misleading and get your computer infected.
I think the sunshine is supposed to be following you, Bob! Our forecast is for sunny weather coming up! Thanks, David, for the advice. I am anal about computer safety! We use Trend Micro's best protection, clean junk out with CCleaner every night before shutting down, and run Malwarebytes once a week or so--and always if I get a virus warning on bad website warning. I never open attachments unless I know the sender.
Hey, I forget, are we doing the eggs in a bag thing again this year?
Nope. Comments from last year were that we had too much food on Saturday, so we're just providing dinner. Actually, we'll have muffins and pastries available at breakfast time, along with juice and coffee too.
Never have too much food...Oh right, that's the reason that we have heavy hors douevers (?) and no dinner that night.
Hey Bob,that's the same thing that happened to us except for the fact that it was only from Medford home.. You must have driven right into it today.
I fought and fought with the website that comes on after they shut you down and then this AM,after four or five tries,it let me get a code and then did a new password and now everything is ok. I think I was hacked and not infected as I'm not having any problems anymore. It probably was one of those work from home emails or one like it tyhat was bad.I do use microsoft protection and have Macafee which is going off. My SIL,who runs a networking company, says that all you need is the Microsoft one and that's all he uses. It's free and the other ones do the same thing for a fee.
