Hey djc,
Look at the pictures again, I have replaced the pic showing the attachment with one that shows it much better. As you can see I used flat stock the same thickness as the original washer to attach to. I wouldn't use anything thicker as there isn't a thread to spare on the jack bolt. I'm going to replace the one in the picture with a wider, not thicker one for increased strength.

Good job , simple and functional.I especially like the backround of the shop. Sometime I feel guilty when all that is left is a foot path through the STUFF , LOL

When you cut the square rails they are going to effect the support of the deck. I would run metal side to side.

Good question Capt. Eddie,
I've done a couple of mods to it. While I haven't cut the square tubes I have moved the chains, now cables, to the outside corners for more stability. I have also added adjustable legs so I can unhook the cables to access it from the ends which I have to do when it is parked in my garage.
