I have now both winter and early Spring camped in my '94 Vandura and absolutely love this vehicle in cold or cool weather. As the weather warms in the next few weeks I'm looking for solutions to be reasonably comfortable inside at night. (adequate outside ventilation while keeping the skeeters out) Wondering if anyone makes a screen room big enough to enclose your van? Might sound crazy but I'd like to sleep inside with the windows partially or fully down. I've been considering screening material vecro attached to the inside window and door frames or a fully enclosed screen room that attaches to the side with the two swing-out doors open? Any clever ideas? Thanks!

There have been a number of discussions here on this topic, so a search of the B forum only for 'screens' may be productive.

One idea I like is folding nylon window screening material over the top of the front door, then loosely hand stitching it to follow the contours of the door. Trim edges outside the stitching, and use small magnets to hold the bottom to the outside of the door. Think custom-fitted sack or pillow case. This lets you partly close the window if desired.

Also google for 'Bug Barrier' & 'Skreenz' companies. One or both makes framed screens for the pop-out style hinged windows, but they tend to be pricey.

My 2nd Roadtrek came with Velcro around the side cargo door, and a full fitted screen with a velcro'd 'door' for access. I can't see a reason a creative person couldn't duplicate that with nylon screen and velcro and/or magnets.

We carry a 10x10 FirstUp quickshelter. We adapted the 5' screen doors of the FirstUp to mate with our awning. Added a skirt for the bottom of the van and we're bugproof for blackfly season in ME. My sig pix shows the old handmade awning---the new commercial awning makes it even easier.

I have screens over my small sliding side windows in the back. I have some 12 volt variable speed computer muffin fans in that window, and a roof exhaust vent, and do not need any other window to be open as these fans can keep the interior the same ambient temp as outside.

In the past I have just closed the doors over some rolls of screen and opened the windows, and used magnets to hold the screen in place over my side barn door opening.

Handbasket pretty much nailed how we're doing it. These are a work in progress. The side windows fit like a pillow case across the top and door hinge side with magnets sewn in at the bottom. Inside across the bottom is a strip of elastic for tautness. Windows can operate as normal. The back, at this time, is held on with clothes pins as a proper method is being worked out. The large screen area comes to the top of the bed and has a roll up panel inside to control the air flow/privacy with velcro and a couple of possible positions. The clothes pins worked out so far, although not the perfect seal, as rain came up suddenly one night and a quick tug pulled it all loose and we shut the doors. More thought certainly has to go into this part, although the side window proto-types are fine.

Here's a possibility. Note about 45 seconds into the video they show an RV door screen.

Let's try the pics again. I seemed to have had an operator malfunction.
