We left Wisconsin May 7th and went to Shelby Mt, then to Calgary. We took the Icefields Parkway again and then onto Wasilla, Alaska via Fairbanks, and Denali. We spent 11 travel days getting here. The weather was absolutely beautiful the entire trip from the Canadian border to Wasilla. Saw a lot of black bears, stone sheep, buffalo, moose, and caribou during the trip plus one lynx.
Half of the time we boondocked and the other half we stayed at either provincial parks and an occasional private campground. A lot of the parks were still closed or had no services yet. We did the same trip back in 2009.
You got here just in time to see the leaves pop out. If you're headed South this morning, the wind is blowing about 35 or so and gusting in Anchorage, would be worse along Turnagain arm.
Added the gusting part

The nice part of being at Denali prior to Memorial Day is that you can drive into different parts of the park not open yet, prior to the Green bus operations.
When we went to Alaska, we also left in mid May, light traffic the entire trip.
Have FUN.
Met 2 people from RV.Net here in Cooper Landing yesterday and another today. I didn't ask permission so I won't mention names. This AM while I was chatting with the person from Florida, The troopers had a Chalet towed. The couple set up camping, slides out, table in space, chairs and wine at 7 AM. It is against rules to camp here. I didn't even see them right away, but the townspeople who walk here every day called toopers and me. I asked them to pack up and the man becamse beligerant. They were from Quebec. Guess what, the trooper spoke French. They man was arrested for DWI and the motor home impounded. Not the way I like to greet visitors.
Actually, that was the start of a rather nasty day. Moose chasing off dogs, people leaving garbage on the sidewalk. Dog (puppy) abandoned. We saw the car drive off, but not the puppy right away. Another visitor to the park reported it to me. Cute lab mix. Anyone want him?
It is nice to meet fellow RVers who are travelling here. We hope more of you will stop.
We plan on leaving Vancouver Island on Thursday, May 26 and will be taking our time getting to Alaska, but should be there by June 2. Keep those road reports coming as well as the fuel prices (and best places to fuel up)
2PM's Road conditions were great. The only bad part is from Destruction Bay to the Alaska border about 135 miles. lots of frost heaves. This area is known for them. Diesel fuel prices in Canada ranged from $1.14 to $1.83 per litre in Canadian funds. In Alaska it ranges from $4.63 to $4.48 per gallon. Higher in the northern part of AK. I don't use gas so haven't paid any attention to that pricing.

Ron, I stopped by your camp today, but it looked like you had company (a truck/camper parked by your car), so I didn't stop. Maybe next trip.
Dave
Dave,
You should have stopped. We were there. That is our TC. We got it to go on the Ferry and to camp in places we don't want to take the motorhome. Living where we do, we have company all the time! Sorry we missed you.
