Due north of Clear Lake in Mendocino County. I flew my airplane up to the gravel strip last year and it looked like a nice area so I want to take the camper up there. I see two routes and both appear to have at least 15 or so miles of gravel so I'm wondering which is better.

The two choices are Elk Mountain Road from Upper Lake or the Eel River Road from Potter Valley (might be a bit longer that way for me)

So if anyone has been up there and knows the best route I'd sure appreciate any tips or advice. The camper is a Lance 990 on an F350 dually.

I live just 8 miles east of Elk Mountain road...When I go to Pillsbury, I go through Potter Valley....While BOTH are dirt, Elk Mt is a "washboard" rd and will damn near beat you to death..!!!!

I don't like to brag, but I can still fit into the same pair of ear rings that I wore in high school!!!!

Its been years, but back in the 70tys we ran a 125 mile motorcycle enduro out of Lake Pillsbury and i know i've been both ways but Potter Valley was the easiest of the two. 3708

I HIGHLY recommend Fuller Grove campground....Secluded, cheap, and the "partiers" camp closer to the airstrip!!!!.....Cuz it's FREE there
