My Wife, Kids and I are coming over from Kodiak in August, how far off the main road are you in these pics? We would love to see this area. My wife really wants to visit Talkeetna, as her friend grew up there. If we have the time we hope to get up to Denali, but we are only on the mainland for 7 days, and then are back on the ferry to the "Emerald Isle" of Kodiak, or as others call it "The Rock"
Love the pics, and wouldn't mind seeing some more (maybe a few with the rig in the forground, and the scenery in the background??
Thanks again,
Garry

Here's my Denali Highway picture from 2005.

Great place to camp -- stayed there 3 days, and could have stayed several more. This was about 25 miles east of Cantwell, while waiting for my Teklanika reservation (the only one I made for 6 weeks).

Garry,

Some of the pictures are from the road itself, up to about 3 miles from the road. The highway is in pretty good shape now, not sure what it will be like in August. It is one of my favorite areas, and I think it is well worth it if you have the time. You could always hit Talkeetna and then take the loop as I call it over to Paxson and back down to Palmer. Need any info drop me a line. Lots of trails to hike and streams to fish for grayling. Grayling can be a lot of fun, but I miss the salmon and dollys in the olds and american. Yes I lived on Kodiak for 3 years myself. Enjoyed it alot, still visit about once a year. Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from Kodiak.

Kodiak from up on pillar mountian.

Plane taking off from the airport.

Sunrise from my house on mission rd.

Kodiak tower.

a couple of whales playing around while we were fishing.

I work on Base, and a good friend of mine works for the NWS in the Tower.

This close, and I start getting nervous, as I have heard of whale "bumps" from other fishermen can mess up the boat, or even hurt people... But it sure is cool seeing whales up this close!

How long ago did you move from Kodiak?

We have been here for about 4 years, and really enjoy it, but the fuel is getting really expensive... Gas $4.55 and Diesel %5.09 and Home heating oil is $4.45....

Might see you around Kodiak

When I lived and worked in Alaska in the 70s I had to do some work in Kodiak. I remember that the airport then was the US Navy/Coast Guard base too. Do they still have the cross arms on the road to stop car traffic so the planes can land & take off?

Was up on Denali Highway myself this last weekend. Tried four lakes before I found one that warmed up enough for the fish. Then it was every 3rd cast. Outstanding fishing.
