I've got an Android Samsung Captivate smart phone. I use PDAnet and tether it to my laptop via USB. That gives me the ability to surf the web on that laptop. As a side note, I also have a Sierra Wireless 881 air card that I could put the sim card from my phone in and use it in my laptop to get connected. A couple of years ago I used the Sierra aircard all the time. I have only tethered my Android phone but I'm assuming my phone sim will still work if I want to mess with removing it from phone. It's just a pain to do that and tethering is so much easier. FYI, my laptop is a 15.5 inch Fujitsu with Bluetooth, Ethernet port, USB and an aircard port.
Now for my question: My wife just bought one of the Dell Duo (10.2 inch laptop). It has wireless connectivity, which we use all the time at home. It also has a couple of USB ports and bluetooth capabilities. It does not have an Ethernet/network port. Does anyone know if there is a way while on the road to connect both computers for internet access at the same time and with the equipment I already have?
ALSO, if I don't have the right equipment, I've read about doing something with a smart phone and some kind of router where I could connect both laptops via a wireless router. I don't know what equipment I would need to do that or what the configuration would look like.
Any help is appreciated.

Connectify will turn your laptop into a wifi hotspot, allowing her to connect to it.
I don't know of a wireless router that will work with a smart phone. They will work with an air card.

there are routers that work with phones,
BUT it won't work PDA net, you will have to pay your phone carrier their data fee
Connectify will work
I have tried it, BUT for some reason for me on this NEW Lenovo laptop, it is a pita to use and very slow
but i have used it to connect our Android tablets via wifi to the internet
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Connectify seems to be what I need. Only problem is my Laptop is Vista and her's is Windows 7. I assume I would have to update to Win 7 or I guess I could install PDAnet on her computer, making it the hotspot then I could connect my Vista laptop via her connection. Thanks for the info.

Using her laptop as the hotspot would be the most direct route. You will need to tether your phone to her laptop and setup PDAnet there of course.
I have used Connectify on several laptops and a netbook and it works great with my tethered Droid X phone.

If you are running Windows 7 (may work with previous versions), you do not need any additional software such as Connectify. Just follow the instructions below.
-----------------------------
HOW TO SET UP VIRTUAL WIFI
- Launch the command prompt with administrator privilege.
- Type the following:
C:\Windows\system32>netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=WhateverNameYouWantHere key=YourPassword
It will then say:
The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
Now type:
C:\Windows\system32>netsh wlan start hostednetwork
It will then say:
The hosted network started.
Share the EasyTether/PDAnet connection with the Virtual WiFi adapter.

sonicsix, I watched a Cnet video this on the net after your post. Do you know if the connection from the host machine can be via USB and PDAnet or must it be via a wired Ethernet connection? From what I am understanding, if I'm using XP or Vista on the host then it must be wired BUT if using Win7 it does not (meaning I could use PDAnet via USB).

or you can use the built-in 3G mobile hotspot app. on your Android, basically turning your smartphone into a wireless router (not free though, needs tethering plan).
