This is what I do, except....
Instead of taking Camp Road I stay on Folly road for another mile or so and then turn right on George L Griffith Blvd in front of Walmart. (It is an easier rt turn than onto Camp Road especially if there is a lot of traffic. You don't have to swing out to make the turn because it just bears off to the right) Follow it to the end and turn rt onto Riverland Drive and then left into the park. I will be headed down there next Monday.

I'll recommend another route that is often over-looked though a bit easier due to turns and traffic.
1) I-26 to first Coosgrove Exit (Hwy 7, Exit 216A)
2) Move to left lane before first traffic light (about 1 mile).
3) Take left fork onto Old Town Rd (Hwy 171). Believe it is the second traffic light)
4) Merge on Hwy 61 by following main traffic flow.
5) Move to right hand lane about two blocks after Hess Gas station.
Two options, same result, second is probably easier:
5a) Turn right on Folly Road, stay in left hand lane as you make the turn.
5b) Stay in left hand lane to avoid the telephone poles.
or
5a) At Folly Road turn, stay straight on Hwy 61
5b) Follow signs for Folly Beach and get on the connector bridge.
5c) At end of expressway, turn left on Folly Road
6) While on Folly Road, remember to stay in left lane.
7) After passing Camp Road (Chick-fil-a), you will need to be in the right lane at the next traffic light.
8) Turn right just before the Walmart
9) Turn right at end
10) Cross bridge and park will be on the left.
Double check and look at Google Maps to make sure it makes sense in case I missed a step.

Im heading down this Sunday and I have always hated that right turn on Camp Rd. Im going to try this option. I always get scared also with the low trees on these roads. I cringe everytime I go under one!!
On our way out on the 4th we took this route. This is leaving from the campground going to I26
Leave campground and take a LEFT onto riverland dr
continue all the way to red light dead end at maybank highway TURN RIGHT
continue to intersection with folly road TURN LEFT
continue to hwy 17 at light INSTEAD OF TURNING LEFT CONTINUE STRAIGHT to HWY 61/171 (St Andrews BLVD)
Continue and VEER LEFT onto Ashley River rd. This runs you straight into I 526
The major difference in this is not turning onto central park road which is a hard right going in and out with the trees etc.
We only found this because my wife broke her ankle and we had to rent a wheelchair from a store out on 171 close to 526. The 171 road can be a bit bumpy but MUCH less traffic and more of a straight shot with less lights etc. hope this helps

Old thread, but I took the route in the previous thread I posted this past week both in and out. Hands down the best to me. Didn't mind not dealing with 17 at all.
