We are thinking of going down to the Smokies this summer in our 24' Class C.. What would be a suggested route to take from the Chicago area down there and back? Thinking about places to stay and things to see and do.

Figure we would spend several days going down and then try to spend a week or so down there.

Any favorite spots to camp in the Smokies?

Any great places to eat in the Smokies?

Thanks for any and all input...

John S.

I always recommend doing a Google search for "______ tourism" and insert the state/city/area you are interested in and read on. Also do a Google search for "Frommers smoky mountains" and buy the book.
For a route I'd just enter the start/end points in Yahoo Maps and use their recommendation. We also follow our GPS.

After you get to Knoxville, Take I-40 east to exit 407, hwy 66. This will take you to Sevierville, then 441 to Pigeon Forge and Gburg and on to the Smokies.
If you can dry camp, Elkmont or Cades Cove are the best in the Park.

I-65 to Indianapolis.

I-74 to Cincinnati.

I-75 to 'the Smokies'.
