Hi Folks. I need help! I'm in a quandary. I have just found out Gulf Shores has a raging wildfire in Gulf State Park. We have had reservations there for months now and the only information we get from the park staff is to call the day before and see if it's OK. We are due to arrive this week, July 1. Does anyone have recommendations for other nice campgrounds in the area? We have a 19ft travel trailer so we couldn't go to some of the exclusive parks with length restrictions. We prefer full hookup and as close to the beach as possible. We have been to Gulf State Park and love it, but I and the DW do not feel comfortable with waiting until the day we leave to check on the situation. Please Help!

Depending on how close to the beach you want to be, there's a really nice Escapees park in Summderdale, about 30 minutes north of Gulf Shores. The RV park has a nice pool and there's lots of shopping around.

Norm is in the area and can probably help better than anyone, but we stayed at Island Retreat last year because of the oil on the beach and the SP's pool had not yet opened.

I have not seen an update, but the fire SHOULD be out or at least contained before you get there.

We stay at Luxury RV Park just 6 blocks from the beach. Try them to see if they have any openings. No shade, but full hookups and a pool.

If you need an alternative not too far away you can look at Dauphin Island. Campground is 5-min walk to the beach.

I appreciate all the replies. We are trying to work on something with Norm. We are going to keep our reservation at the State Park but definitely need a backup plan. The Luxury RV Park does look pretty nice, (Luv2Camp).

Just as an update - we have made a backup reservation at Doc's RV park in Gulf Shores. It seems like a good alternative. But, hopefully the situation at Gulf State Park will be OK by the time we arrive on Friday. That is where we really want to camp.

We stayed at Bay Breeze RV on the Bay. 1901 Bay Breeze Pwy, Gulf Shores, AL (phone 251.540.2362) I don't remember it much as I came down with a cold and slept for two day. DW said she liked it and it was nice. When my head cleared of Nyquil we headed out after three nights.

We already checked with Bay Breeze, Anchors Aweigh, Luxury RV Park, etc. Doc's was the only one with a spot left. That was yesterday. Thanks anyway :-)
