I looking to switch to a electric fridge and get rid of the current 1200 fridge. If you have done this can you tell me what brand fridge and model number you bought? How hard was it to install? Would you do it again?

Look at the apartment size refrigerators at Lowes and Home Depot. Both are about 10cuft and are small enough to fit thru the RV door and into the existing fridge location. When my Dometic gives out which should be anytime, I plan on one of these refrigerators. ($330)

A cooling unit replacement is far less costly than a whole RV Fridge replacement. Not all that diffucult do replace. If you care too, google search will have instructions.

Hi,
This is a fridge I'd consider putting in--there are other 12 volt fridges too.

THe OP has a 38 ft. DP. A 12 volt puny chinese fridge nor an apartment size is not what he needs. Pianotuner keeps recommending these dinky fridges but I do not think he has one in his unit. He drives a smaller class C without the room for a real fridge. There are lots of large side by side double door fridges that will fit in the space. Many of the brand specific forums on the net have detailed instructions on how the change can be performed. Here is one from IRV2:changing out a Norcold 1200 There are many similar articles if you do some googling. There are some minor challenges depending on your unit and the cabinetry. You may have to remove a window or windshield to get the fridge into your unit. You may have to change to a better and larger inverter. Additional 6 volt batteries will also help. Some have installed a smaller( 18 cu. ft.) 2 door without removing windows. Often a drawer needs to be removed under the fridge. Sounds like a lot of work but is really not that difficult. The end result is a fridge that will outlast your unit, gets cool in hours not days, keeps beer cold and ice cream rock hard and does not start on fire. Fleetwood installs residential fridges on all their DP's as a no cost option. You can find a nice unit for under $1200 in stainless.

About the only unit I've found that comes close to not being too tall is this20.9. Not even sure it's short enough to fit where the 1200 fits, but it's close as making more room will be a real pain in our rig. If I needed a new windshield I might go this route, but we boondock a lot and will be near Elkhart next week so it's a Amish replacement cooling unit for our poorly performing 1200. By the time I add even more batteries and a pure sine wave inverter (more efficient)the $1250 for a better cooling unit installed looks like the best way to go for us. Now if the windshield gets hit in three weeks I'll be really P..d off.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

I will be dumping mine in a few weeks and getting a Whirlpool ed2khaxv 21.9 CF
It is a close fit to the Norcold junkbox...about 3" taller...and will have to go in a side window that's removed, but it's a REAL refrigerator that I dont have to worry about accidentally 'smoking' my food!

Hi moisheh,
What exactly is your problem? Fridge envy? Size envy? The OP should look for a fridge that fits with a Danfoss compressor.

I have a 14 or 15 CF Frigidaire that is Energy Star. Not sure on model. It is narrower than a standard fridge by a few inches. They also make a 17 CF model is slightly taller, but still narrow.
I did have to remove a window to put it in. As far as fridges go it was pretty light.
