Update to a awaiting Escape transmission week 7...We got the call yesterday that they are shipping the transmission and they should have it by Monday or Tuesday. As much as I want to believe the Dealership, we have heard this song before. Hopefully we are back on the road by the 4th of August.

Just got back from our 750 mile trip 700 towing our 2010 Fusion. All is normal with it. Unhooked it started it and drove it into garage. That pushes us towards 7000 miles of towing with a total of 26,000 on the odo (it does not roll up miles while towing).

I am a Ford fan and am disappointed and perplexed by the others with blown trannies. But the problem must be under Ford's radar as I was at a party near Detroit last night and I talked with a Ford salesman at length about their vehicles. He has sold many Fusions and Escapes and he was clueless that there was any kind of a transmission problem from flat towing. He is my nephew's father-in-law so he would have leveled with me if he knew anything.

If I was him and knew there was a problem I would steer people towards the Edge instead.

Yes, the Edge, Flex and Explorer and the Lincoln kin MKX, MKT make excellent toads. Ford will figure out this Escape problem. Very unfortunate that so many have been caught up in it.

Hi all,

Ford is discontinuing the Escape as we know it. The European Kuga will replace the Escape for 2012. Unknown at this point if they will name it "Escape" here in the US. The vehicle is a totally different platform than the current Escape. It was introduced in Europe in 2008.

I believe us Escape owners are on our own.....the modified tranny's are blowing and Ford certainly won't do anything after the vehicle is out of warranty.

I had my dealer check to see if Ford would pay for the Remco pump - the answer was "no". My dealer has gone out of their way to take care of me for many years. I have been a die hard Ford owner for over 20 years (with one exception), but my disappointment over these issues have caused me to believe that I have purchased my last Ford.

Just reporting our trip, we're in the midst of towing our 2010 Escape (V6-auto) for 2300 miles, no problems at all. I had the fluid lowered per TSB, don't exceed 60 mph, and check it every few hours at rest stops and monitor the trans temp. Usual temp is 135-150 which is lower than the normal driving temp (around 180 for me). Keeping my fingers crossed but it's still under warranty for several thousand miles so I'm not too worried. Love the car and I'm still glad I got it instead of the CRV.

See my post on Ford Fusion. Ford knows it has a problem with their transmissions and the Ford Corp. Representative I am dealing with has admitted they our having major problems. They have bent over backwards with us by renting cars at our destinations and delivering our car 1100 miles from the last trans failure, but it has still ruined our trip and we our cutting it short because we don't feel comfortable going into Canada and having issues there. Some people think that the problem may be in the electronics, mainly the motherboard not knowing the car is in neutral. I am not sure but between dead batteries and fried transmissions I am about ready to give it back.

Maybe Ford is going about this wrong, maybe they should look at some vehicles like mine that have many thousands of miles towing without a problem. Maybe there is something different about my Fusion?

The dead battery is easy to solve. The battery does not have the amp hour capacity to support an auxiliary braking system in use for more than 3-4 hours. We solved our problem with a TOAD Charge.

We got the call today from our friendly Ford Dealer who has had our escape since June 5th. They want the RV tomorrow to put some monitoring device in. Not sure if I am relieved over this issue yet or to hold our breath for the next month, we will be back on the road for 3 months. I certainly hope this will resolve the issue once and for all. Love the vehicle when we have it to use, but not when the dealer spends more time with it then we do.

My 2010 Escape is stuck in Iowa. 11,000 miles on second transmission. I only got 1600 miles on first one (7/4/2010). In both cases apparently the left front seal let loose, judging by the location of the smoke, and the dealers where the car was towed initially said it was my fault and Ford would never pay. I had the dealer I purchased from intercede and it was taken care with "the latest version off the assembly line". I'm happy to hear on this post that Ford continues to cooperate in spite of what the dealers are telling me. I know they make much more money if I pay for the replacement than if Ford does. I've preferred Ford for the last 20 years. I had 200,000 miles on my Escort toad when I sold it. But when I get it home the Escape is gone.
