I love my Subaru, but you have to get the manual transmission.

Not quite factual.
Honda does not want to pay warranty claims for damage caused by owner's negligence in following Honda's pre-tow procedure.
These unnecessary warranty claims do nothing but raise Honda pricing for those of us that purchase Hondas and follow their pre-tow procedure.
So, Honda favors 99.999% of their owners while not favoring the .001% that cause damage to their vehicles and expect Honda to pay for that damage.

I just bought a low millage lease return 2008 Honda Fit to use as a toad. The Honda Dealer got a print out from the Honda computer system. After 05 only the ones that they OK are the CRV and the Fit. There was nothing about 2012 on the print out.

Bottom line - dealer salesmen may or may not know what they are talking about. What does the owner's manual say? You sometimes have to really be assertive at dealers to see the manual before a purchase.
Boy is that the truth. I spent about 6 months looking for my first toad and not once did I find a salesman that knew what he was talking about.
Every car I looked at their line was "yes it can be towed and yes its under 3,000 lb" I then had to look to see what it weighed get the manual out and look if it could be towed. Criss crossing all over the sales lot.
The last one I finally went in to talk to the manager and explain to him what dangers these gd salesman would be putting unsuspecting customers in by lying about towing. AND to ask him to keep the salesman INSIDE while I looked at cars on the lot so I didn't take his life when he said "yes it can be towed" one more time.
The manual really is the bible on buying a toad.

so as to have the life that is waiting for us".

Personally I'm surprised any manufacturer allows towing. Think about it, a towed car can actually have 100K towed miles while only showing 10K "actual" miles. This brings up warranty issues I'm sure. Lets say a rear end goes out after being towed 100K, well the dealer would need to fix it if it's still under the 3 year 36K mile warranty.
I'm sure some manufactures got fed up with fighting those claims that were related to towing yet still under the warranty mileage.

Bunk, they just charge the owner for the transmission replacement as they did to me was 4065.86 this past Jan 31.

All new Ford Cars and SUVs are towable 4 wheels down - - and although some Escape owners have had problems frying their transmissions - - many others have towed their Escapes thousands of miles with no problems.
