I am writing to voice my outright frustration with the Camping World enterprise in Council Bluffs, IA.
I purchased a used RV from camping world In December of 2010. The sales manager and salesman provided less than satisfactory experience during this time. When I purchased the trailer I was told that as part of the deal I would receive two tv’s to fit the entertainment center in the main living area and the bunk house both with DVD players. I received two tv’s neither with a DVD player. I spoke with the sales represenative and the sales manager finance guy at the time and he stated that they would look into it. I received a call two days later and was offered a used dvd player from a trailer on the lot. After two days of bickering back and forth I had to drive over there and ask to see the store manager they provided me with a tv from in the store.
During the purchase of the trailer I asked the sales representative if I had a big enough truck to pull the trailer and the sales rep said that I did and stated that since I was within a 1000 pounds of the weight limit that I could carry gear in my pickup bed. I questioned `him about that since I would think that it would factor into the Gross combined weight and he said it did not.
I chose to store the trailer on the lot until the winter snow melted rather than risking an accident and asked the sales representative to be sure and disconnect the battery so that it did not die. The representative did not disconnect the battery resulting in a dead battery. Luckily I caught it before the 5 degree temperatures caused it to freeze and break.
When I picked up my trailer for the final walkthrough they ran me through all of the systems. They checked the hot water and told me that the hot water heater had not had enough time to get warm and that that was why the pressure would alternate from hot to very cold. When in fact during de-winterization the valves on the hot water heater had not been reset. This resulted in about 8 hours of frustration on my first camping trip.
After all this I decided to return to CW for service when I pushed a branch through the side of the trailer in March at a service station where I went to replace the tires. It took 6 weeks for the service to be completed because the parts were punctured by a forklift the first time during shipment and the wrong lengths were ordered during the second shipment. No effort was made to expedite the parts during any of the three shipments.
I picked the trailer up the second week of May. When I came to pick the trailer up my wood chocks which the service representative said would be put inside the trailer when they moved it to the service area were gone. No effort was made to replace these. My trailer brake cable that connects to the hitch was missing also. I noticed that the front cap on the side where the damage was repaired was bent in several places. I questioned the repair specialist and he stated that you had to bend it in order to replace the siding. I thought this was strange since the factory can put all of the siding on without bending the heck out of it and told him so. I also noticed that the siding replaced had some small dents in it and was bowing slightly. I was told that this was normal and that this was the best fit they could get. After waiting six weeks and having postponed my wife and I’s camping get away ( we have three kids and with each week we were unable to go she was getting more frustrated) I took the trailer and planned to never return again.
Well this weekend while driving the siding came lose where the repairs were done. We were told to caulk the siding and put gorilla tape around it and return to the store on Tuesday when they opened. No effort was made to allow us to go to a repair facility in the major city we were camping by and as a result I spent $40.00 of my own money and two hours of my time doing repairs. Upon return we stopped by CW in Council Bluffs and showed them the damage. They are planning to repair the damaged areas which is good. Truthfully I do not think I will ever return to that store for anything. I cannot trust anyone in the facility and have been repeatedly screwed by this establishment. I thought you should know so that maybe you could avoid having the same experience.

Rule of thumb that I go by... if there is any way possible I can do it myself, I will be better off. You'd think that with today's job market, employees would be going the extra mile to make sure they keep their jobs. Apparently not.

Sounds like you have a pretty bad experience alright. Sometimes a dealer can get SO busy they forget to take care of their customers and IF there is any justice they won't be in business long or someone near the top looses their job. Not ALL Camping Worlds are like that but a fair number that I've visited would seem to fit that same mold. Hope you have somewhere else to get your service work done since they've shown they don't have the ability or the integrity to do the job.

I live by that same ROT and will only use my warranty for MAJOR items and not for stripped screws, etc.

There are things you can do to protect yourself. Such as "how to tell when the salesman is lying"
His lips will be moving.
I hope it works out ok for you.

For what its worth, I received similar treatment multiple times from 2 different CW locations here in Upstate NY. Two times buying a rv and once for warranty work. All three times they down right lied to me and treated me like an idiot. I hopefully have at least 20 yrs of rv'ing left in me and will never deal with them again. I have lots of rv friends as well. The stories spread like viruses. CW are you listening? Afterall, this is your forum.
