Had a problem lately thinking about needing more power. Found the problem which was leaking intake manifold gasket, got it fixed, and replaced a sensor, now found the power that I was missing. Truck just pulled a heavier trailer recently wieghing about 9k no problems. Happy with my combo. Trucks paid for, camper will be paid for in the next 2 years most likely. Keep 65 to 70 on interstate, get 8mpgs pulling usually. Found myself about 60 in the hills and down to 55 on some really steep grades. When I run this truck out in years to come I will get the newer 6.0 with the 6 speed. Overall very happy, trucks got close to 150K on it, very little repairs/cost. Sure it will last many more miles to go. Dont mind the RPMs of the gasser, pulls as its made to.

Glad yours is still treating you well Glen. I probably should have kept mine. My co-worker friend has 206k miles on his '03 2500HD hemi and it's still running like a new one. Needs ball joints and a heater core but other than that it's good to go.

2) 2004 Holiday Rambler Savoy 5er, closer to 28 ft. length, approx. 9000 lbs. loaded and camp ready.
3) Ram came fully equipped with tow package including integrated brake controller.
4) Comments: My two previous TV's were diesels and because we tow during the "good" weather months, approx. 8 trips, I found it a waste to have a diesel powered TV.
After towing with the new Ram for 3 trips so far, I can tell you I am completely satisfied with how the Hemi tows. I have no regrets whatsoever with making the switch from diesel to gas. The Ram has plenty of power and the fuel mileage is comparable to my last diesel, 2008 Ford 6.4 Powerstroke (clean diesel emission equipped). I usually will obtain anywhere from 9.6 to 10.0 mpg's at 65 mph when the 5er is in tow.
The Ram is anything but sluggish while towing. It gets off the line with traffic and enters the freeways with ease and has plenty of accelerator peddle left. Again, for my needs, the gasser works great.

Truck does what I need it to do. It has the power, but it needs to rev to get there. Best towing mpg-13.5 on the flat interstate. Worst towing mpg-7.5 in the hills...no complaints.

I towed with a 2005 F250 crew cab 4x4 V10 for 4 years. Last unit I towed with it was the 2010 Cougar 293SAB (pic is in my sig) It would tow that fiver just fine and did even better once I added a 5 Star tuner. I never scaled the fiver, but others have and it probably weighs around 11,000 ready to camp. Long hills on country roads would get the better of the V10, but you'd never run out of power as long as you didn't mind the engine revving. On the highway at 62-65 I'd average 6-8 mpg depending on the wind, terrain, etc.
I made the decision to try a 2011 F350 6.7 this year and while it cost a boatload of money, the towing experience is vastly different. My last 3 tows with the same camper have averaged 12.3 MPG.
Good luck to you!

Great Thread! I can give a better answer in a couple weeks after our Florida trip but to this point I have been happy with our short tows with our set up. It is a 05 Chevy 3500 Dually with the 6.0 & 4:10 gears.I am a bad RV owner and have not weighed the 5th wheel.Dry sticker is 8300lbs & gross is around 11000lbs.I am guessing we are around 9500lbs.Laredo 30 ft bunkhouse. Factory tow package with aftermarket brake controller. We have been right around 8 MPG according to the DIC. I am a little apprehensive about how the 6.0 will react in the hills of Kentucky & Tennessee on the way down.If this thread is still alive when we return I'll post how it went.

I am curious about who out there is towing their 5th wheels with gas engines as opposed to diesels. While I am sure diesel might make more sense, I am soliciting comments from people who are using gas powered TVs. No diesel stuff please!.

Get about 9-9.5 towing and about 13.5-14.5 empty Yes, I have read the sticky associated with this forum. I am just not sure if everyone posts whether they are towing with a diesel or not.
