I have a Honda EU2000 watt generator. I hooked my my TH to my 2000 watt generator at home before we left and the generator fired up the 15000 BTU AC. Once we got to our campsite and had been there a few days I went to fire up the AC on the genny and nope killed the Gen had to reset. Gen was not on ECO mode. Nothing was on in the trailer excpet maybe the converter was charing the battery. I have read that a Honda 2000 should power up a 16 BTU AC?

I don't know where you read that, but it was not from a dependable source. I've never heard anyone state that a 2KW generator would run anything above a very small AC.

For a 13,500 BTU AC, the absolute minimum is a 2400 watt generator like the Yamaha2400. For a 16000 like you said, a 3000 watt would be the absolute minimum, and under some conditions that might not be enough.

The Honda really put out about 1600 Watts. At sea level that will barely handle your AC. At a higher altitutd it will not. Depending on the condition of your batteries the converter may draw enough current to overload the generator. You probably have other things drawing current.

My Generac 4000XL ran my 13,500 A/C and the microwave too.

A 13.5k A/C unit is a stretch for a Honda EU2000. To run a 15k you need to purchase a second EU2000 and run them in parallel. You may be able to get by temporarily by turning off the breakers to everything but the A/C unit, but it is still going to be demanding 110% from your Honda. They will handle slightly more than they are rated for, but not for very long.

Might work at sea level with converter and other high DC demands off but I wouldn't depend on the Honda 2K to run a 15K AC in most situations. You could by a second unit and parallel them if running your AC is a common event when camping.

I am thinking it is close and it does have something to do with whats running on the converter at the time. I did try it at home when the TH had been plugged into AC for some time and it did fire up the 15k BTU AC. I will have to try it again to see if that was a fluke.

Here is what I read. It was from a Marine thread and written by Dometic Marine

Summary
As was cited elsewhere in this thread, the Honda EU2000i can support a 16,000 BTU air conditioner without any added hardware. But as our testing showed, this would only work if the ECO mode was turned off. Adding the Supco SPP6E provides a marginal improvement, but for our specific test with the 16000 BTU system, it could not guarantee a reliable start-up if the generator was operating in ECO mode. Beyond this, if other equipment is already loading the generator (e.g. sea water pump), that will further reduce the available amperage for the compressor start-up. Adding the Dometic SmartStart provides a dramatic improvement, provides a reliable start under almost all conditions, and will allow the generator to be run in ECO mode, which will certainly reduce fuel consumption.

You can see the entire thread here scrool down till you get to the Dometic presentation.

Get another one and parallel them. Even if you could run it it would be loud and working the little guy too hard.

Well there are a lot factors that affect whether or not this will work. It appears that you have already read the answer that you want to hear even though your own experience has proven otherwise.

The only advice I can give you is to turn everything but the A/C off, turn the fan to low speed in manual mode and then try to start the compressor. Even this will only get you an initial startup and likely fail to restart once the compressor is hot and has some pressure on it.

80% of the people out there will tell you that an EU2000 will not run a 13.5k unit. My experience is that it will barely do it and the generator is overloaded at that point but will run. The meter on my parallel kit shows my 13.5k unit to draw between 1800 and 1900 watts which is well above the continuous rated load of the EU2000.

I bought my generator when we were supposed to be getting hit by a hurricane and the only few generators that were left in the area were large and very expensive and ended up getting a Generac 6500. It works great with the camper and powers everything nicely but very noisy. Had a Honda 2000 and the first time I really needed it I wouldn't start!
