That being said..I have 2yr old, and we like to decorate together. We like other sites that are. Walking around the CG is a normal activity, and if it catches his eye, and keeps him entertained, tis worth it.
I gave some thought to your suggestion but have to disagree. A lot of people--some new to RVing--read these threads who benefit from hearing both sides of an issue. There are obviously plenty of RVers who enjoy decorative lights and outside speakers but perhaps an equal number who don't.
I would then respectfully suggest you A)re-read the thread title, or B)Re-read what the OP was asking for in the first place. As usual, another thread that should be quite entertaining has been derailed by the "police" and will now quickly spiral down the black drain.
It's your campsite..you pay for it, you do what you wish with it. As long as it doesn't break any of the campground rules, then have at it. If you don't like that type of thing, then don't stay there. It's that easy...just like this post, you don't wish to be a team player, the exit is to the left, don't even have to check out.

Funny, not 1 person has ever come up to me and said anything about my pink flamingos. I think i'm going to add some plastic tulips next outing. We do decorate (besides the flamingos) and if people dont like it they can look away or come talk to me about it, but they never do
Ha! That is funny because.....we did the same thing for the very same reason! Have been putting them out during every camping trip this year.

I was camping around Halloween last fall and I saw one campsite where they had 2 or 3 pink flamingos. They wrapped them in that fake cobweb material and I got a kick out of that being Halloween and all. I do not put up lights except on the awning once in awhile but I enjoy seeing other's creativity.

I think your display is really cute and fun and if you like to do this, that is all that counts. As long as you are considerate of your neighbors and turn it off at bedtime, I say "Go For IT." I mostly just decorate with a cute sign with our names on it, a bright tablecloth and a candle lantern, a couple tiki lights and if it's the 4th of July, some flag decor.
When I read your post, I knew you would get some negative comments, but like you, we camp to have fun and also to meet new people. If decorating makes you happy, that is all that matters.

There are some fantastic light and animation set up's. Sorry I don't have a picture of our little set of awning lights to share.
Much agree'd. Many people decorate their sites at Ft. Wilderness. It's really cool, I'm pretty sure I enjoy it as much as the kids.
Don't worry too much about the people slamming your preferences. You could be donating 100% of your free time volunteering for the less fortunate, and someone on RV.net could find a reason to hate you for it.

There are to many that believe if you don’t conform to what their idea of camping should be you are rude or are some how bothersome… there are places for them to go where this isn’t happening but when they go there they find something else to complain about,,, it will be the dogs, the kids, the campfires, the social walkers, something, anything…
You can’t allow them, and their intolerance of others ruin your fun… they just need to learn to go to places the suit or cater to their needs…
I like your display, and we have decorated many different ways over the years with lights, fountains, signs, and plantscapes that I tore down and set up every 2 weeks as I moved around the country… some elaborate and sometimes very simple…
We have been to parks with Christmas in July and for Christmas when decorating goes wild… some put a lot of effort into their displays… I am not a big picture buff but here are a few…
EDIT: the last two pictures (a front and side view) are the same campsite for Christmas in July and the whole family are also in costume, Santa, Mrs. Clause, and the kids, dog, and cat as helpers and elves handing out candy canes to anyone that comes buy... they do all of this for a one weekend display...
I understand for the real Christmas they do a live Nativity Scene ...

Love my mass produced, entry level, built by Lazy American Workers, Hornet
To each their own (as long as it abides by the rules).
At this stage of my life, my 2yr old does a good enough job of "decorating" and I spend enough time running around cleaning up after him, I don't really have time to do things like this.
Another side of it, I don't have to previledge of being able to camp for more than 1 week at a time. In other words, I'm too busy trying to relax in the short time I have. If I had a seasonal, snowbirded or had longer vacations, I could see my self having fun with it.
With that being said, we try to always get involved in the local events. For example, we decorated a wagon and took part in a canada day parade at one campground, and we're already making plans for next year's parade. So I can see how people get caught up in it.
I go as far as awning lights and an LSU flag. lol I do like to see what other people come up with though.
