If you have a CCW permit and are carrying and have contact initiated by a policeman, first thing out of your mouth when handing over your ID is "Sir (or Officer) I have a concealed weapons permit and I am carrying (not carrying) my weapon", as the case may be.
They do not like to find that out while they are running your license check. In some States it is the law that you inform them when they make contact with you.
If you have a CCW permit and are legal in the State that you are carrying (reciprocal States too), there is NO reason NOT to have it loaded and very near you.
What not to do when being approached by a policeman - yell out the window "I HAVE A GUN, I HAVE A GUN!!!!"
If you possess your permit legally, there is no reason not to feel safe for exercising your right. You passed a background check and in my State, a training course.
That is classified information, to be disseminated ONLY on a "NEED TO KNOW" basis.
99.9998% of the people in the world do NOT have a "need to know".
Look at the last line in my sig. and make up your own mind.

Perhaps an Alaska resident will comment but from what a saw on an episode of Alaska Highway Patrol, that's essentially what you are supposed to do if pulled over there. Not yell it out the window but inform the LEO that you do have a weapon in the vehicle as one of the first things you tell them.
....other than, "....what safes are available...", and you being in Australia, you'd better check with the Australian rules/regs/procedures for porting firearms in a vehicle...

You don't inform the Alaska State Trooper (or any other LEO) that you have a CCW permit. You inform them that you have a weapon in the vehicle or concealed on your person. They don't care about the permit. A good rule of thumb is to keep both thumbs on the steering wheel in plain sight of the LEO.
I will tell you this, I will get to it before you do.....

Does anyone have tips on gun security in thier Truck or TC?
What safes are there for handguns or Rifles?
Where to hide? I assume you place ammo in different location?
There are several safes available as you can see already posted. I have had several hiding places now and in the past that can be used, most requires doing some reconstruction in the TC. I store the ammunition in the weapon. PM me and I will share hiding places I have developed in the past.

HA HA, so a bad guy comes up to you , you are in your cab.. YOUR pistloa is stuck in a safe under the seat, unloaded, the ammo is in the camper. Same scenario in the camper. In a quiet voice you say "Oh wait I have to get the combo from my piece of paper to open the safe,,TO PROTECT MYSELF"..Might as well let the government know you have all these weapons!
Sheesh!!!!
Carrying carry it loaded where you can get to it. And say nothing. I carry wasp spray, blinds them and cuts their breath short, shoots 20 feet. This stuff you can cross borders and state lines with out a permit.
What a tough group. In answer to your questions, there are several manufacturers of gun safes and lock boxes that are suitable for use in TC's and other types of RV's. Most secure would be one that can be bolted to the floor. Many local gun shops and most large sporting goods stores will have a variety of safes and lock boxes available, so you should be able to find one suitable for your needs.
As always, personal protection weapons should be carried on your person or within easy reach, provided you have the proper permits.
Ammunition can and probably should be stored in the same safe/lock box as your handguns.
Rifles/shotguns can be secured with cable locks.
Everyone knows or should know that no method is perfect and a determined thief will eventually defeat any safeguards you employ.
When traveling cross country with firearms, compliance with the Federal Safe passage act will/should provide immunity from prosecution by over zealous anti-gun LEO's and prosecutors.
