My steps didn't retract, I didn't notice it so now I must replace them. They are 2 step series 32. It looks fairly simple to me. Disconnect a plug, a ground wire, then 4 nuts. I'm going to use a floor jack as they weigh 60 lbs. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and am I missing something. Looks like PPL have the best price.

Why do you have to replace the step rather than fix the motor or controller?

THat's exactly how I did it about 3 months ago. I would suggest that you have a second person. It makes it a lot easier to get the bolt holes lined up while you're trying to move the floor jack around. Easy job - go for it.

My steps have retracted and quit working. I bought the 2000 Newmar Dutch Star used and someone else has/had worked on the steps and installed the linkage clevis pin and cotter pin on the wrong side (backwards) and I can't get to the cotter pin to remove it so that the steps would swing down manually. I can feel the cotter pin (from under the rv) and I can see it (from the passenger side there is a small gap between the chassis and the top step)but I can't get to it. Not enough hand space. Will I have to remove the 4 main step mounting nuts & drop the complete step assembly down or is there a way to extend the steps without having to remove the complete step assembly?

If the new steps don't work you might check out their web site or give them a call for information on the door switch.
The older units used a normally open switch the newer ones use a normally closed.

GM Gary,
Kwikee doesn't accept calls from retail customers anymore. Their 800 numbers just rings and rings. Poor C/S at its bes.

My steps gave out on me a couple of years ago ( controller) and I found replacement ( made in China) steps on Ebay for a lot less than Kwikee.. I think about 1/3 the price . They were an exact fit and just bolted up. I did have to change out eh door switch as menetioned in an earlier post as my old steps had the open swithch and the new one came with the closed sw.

I couldn't see the two outside nuts without opening the step. Replacing the steps was easy with a friend and the floor jack. Kwikee has no customer service the phone just rings as Bob says. I just relabled my switch, works fine. I paid $381 delivered from PPL.
