I am wondering if any of you have real life experience in towing with the Eco Boost? It has a tow rating of 11200 pounds with the 3.73 - I was very impressed with this truck, liked it even better than the F250 that I test drove with the 6.2L - I am wondering if any of you have ever towed a FW with one of these units. It has a higher tow rating than the 5.0L and is only shy of the F250 with the 6.2L by 700 pounds. I am very interested in this truck but am wondering what you all think of it.

Check your weight between 1/2 to 3/4 ton. Not as much the towing but the weight capacity is were you may take the hit. Probably better for a TT but fifth may be a challenge due to weight on the eco.I now a coup eof guys with them and they are a great truck as long as you realize it is a half on the eco. Go with your needs.

Here's a link to my review of the Ecoboost towing. Review is of a relatively short week long trip amounting to just under 2,000 towing miles. Information is accurate as of it's posting about a month ago but I now have a few more miles on the truck and the MPG has improved by about 1 to 1.5 MPG when NOT towing and I'll soon find out if it carries through for when I AM towing or not.

My truck has the HD Payload option on it which in a Super Cab versioin provided 2,650 lb. of payload. In a regular cab configuration it brings the payload to 3,050 lb. Those numbers are very CLOSE to the same numbers I had on my 2004 F250 PSD Crew Cab. WITHOUT the HD option many 5th wheels would be too heavy as far as pin weight is concerned. The HD Payload option is available ONLY in the XL and XLT trim lines. I special ordered the XL because I don't like all the chrome on the XLT (personal preference) then added back in most of the standard features and some of the optional ones so I have an XL with XLT eqipment and minimal chrome. Cost was a little higher than just ordering the XLT but it was worth it to get the look I wanted.

The tow RATING for the EB with 3.73 is actually 11,300 lb. (which is the maximum for any F150 for 2011).

Here's the link to the previous review

For what it's worth, your impression (WOW) is just about the same as mine was when I first drove the truck in January. Still smiling.

Of possible use to the crew cab ecoboost buyer:

Skip bought the HD payload option, which increases the GVWR to 8200lb and adds a bunch of heavier duty components to get it there. Up until now that has only been available on regular and super cabs. Now, if this story is true, the 2012s will have it available on crew cabs as well. That package, as Skip already stated, brings an F-150 within (or past) spittin' distance of the real-world payload of an F-250 diesel.

Here is what Ford needs to do. Build a HD version of the Expedition with the EcoBoost. It shouldn't be too hard using the F150HD chassis.

I have a Ecoboost as well. I don't have the HD version but have the max tow CC Mine has a GVWR of 7700# Tow rating of 11,200 and GCVWR of 17,100. This truck is everything they say it is. I have towed my 29' TT that is at 7000#. This truck pulls my trailer without even blinking. I have pulled it up some grades of around 8% and it loved it. It way out pulls my dads f250. The direct injection and twin turbos make this 3.5l pull like a diesel. With the high price of diesel and all the emission crap. I hope to see a 5.0 or 5.7 size of this type of engine offered from the big 3 in the near future this would really be great for the HD trucks. My truck gets close to 20 empty on the freeway yet out pulls the conventional v8s when needed.

I test drove one in the Crew Cab configuration. LOT and LOTS of "grapes", but price tag scared me. Over $44K. For another $4K can get a 6.7 Super Duty. JMHO

I test towed my TT with one. I like it far better than the GM 6.0L and 6.2L. It pulls hard over 2000rpm. I don't recommend half ton trucks for towing a FW, though. Ford does have a (very rare) HD payload package that might keep it under GVWR, but 99% of them are in the 1500 pound range, which is only enough for something like the Scamp FW.
