I used those stakes for many years and very rarely ever broke one. Find a rope, and tie a slip knot in one end (a hangmans knot worked great for me). Put a handle of some kind on the other end (I found a piece of closet rod with a hole in the center for the rope worked great). To remove a stake, slide the slip knot over the stake and tighten UNDER the green piece so you do not pull on the plastic tip. Now just pull up on the handle. Try to pull stake straight out. Note the rope can be twisted on the handle to make it shorter as needed.
Once you get the length you like, you can cut off excess rope. I used the same rope for over ten years to do that.

don't buy the staskes with the plastic, instead buy thev large nails used to hold landscape ties together. Slide the stakes through a large washer then when you want to pull them you can use your stake puller or a claw hammer.

I've had one of these in my kit for years- it's a great all-around camp tool.
Makes pulling stakes real easy- the handle's about 2 feet long, so you don't have to bend over much to use it!

I grab a piece of rope and wrap it around the tent stake, then yank it out. Helps if the tent stake isn't sunk too far down in to the ground or if it has some sort of head or hole in it. No special tools needed (i already carry too much stuff as it is )

Claw hammer or, as stated before, a small wrecking bar. I've used both. I love those stakes and won't go back to anything else (until I hit the beach, but that's a whole 'nother issue).

I use just a regular claw hammer - lay a short board of rock next to it and grab the top of the stake with claw and pull down... Usually comes right up.
I carry all of "tent" stakes and claw hammer is same tote box. I always drive the stakes in at an angle for more strength so pull them out with that angle...
Here lately I have been using the three-inch round 18-inch long earth augers with a short loop on top. Use a tool extension as handle and they just screw into the ground with ease. When you unscrew them to take them out doesnt leave any mess or holes in the ground.. They will hold alot more of strength than the tent stakes will hold... Got mine off eaby but noticed PEPBOYS carries them where the generators and portable garages are located.
My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM me

I use a pair of slip joint pliers. Grab the head of the stake and twist until loose then pull out. Small enough to bundle with the stakes.

I haven't been back out since I posted this question, but I have some replacement stakes for the ones that bent, got the washers and a claw hammer and some rope. Should have all the bases covered.

Desert tenters use 12 inch concrete form stakes with a flat welded on top. also 3 pound sledge hammer. Beat them on the side to lossen them up. Use 24 inch for sand camping. or use a pop-up with no stakes.
