On our way home from Va Beach and a large bird smashes out windshield. We have pulled off the interstate on I64 in Hampton, Va. Called the insurance company and they indicated it would 24 hours before we get an answer on when it can be repaired. It seems unsafe to drive in this condition. see SMASHED below

While we wait for the insurance company to respond to us, I called some other resources such as the glass doctor, safelite glass and several others, all of which are closed on Sunday.

Anyone else been in this situation and what advice, tips or contacts you can share to get us back on the road quickly?

SMASHED!

No. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. Sounds like you have done all you can until Monday morning. Glad to see you were not hurt. Could have been much worse.

We were in our car and hit a duck! I wasn't sure what it was, but we had a duck foot on the hood of our car, so we just assumed. We were only about 10 miles from home, so drove the vehicle on home and called the insurance co. It took 3 days, but we got it fixed.

Glad no one was hurt. I would just find a campground for the night and wait it out til Monday.

I am not certain it is safe to drive in the condition...closest campground is 20 miles away. Lucky enough the hotel staff is letting stay parked in the parking lot for now.

Was it an Angry Bird?
With having a windshield replaced I would imagine time has to be allotted to ship from Duncan or similar supplier to you
I imagine any other company, Safelite or Glass Doctor would have to get from these same suppliers

It's good you're in a parking lot. I'd try to stay there until you can get the windshield replaced, even if you had to pay for a room for a couple of days in the hotel. Be thankful that you're not on the side of a road in the middle of Montana with no one within a hundred miles.

We lost a windshield in April. It was a 3 day wait for the new windshield to get here. We were lucky as the installer called the minute it came in and took us right in.

They are a National chain. When my windshield was damaged, I called my insurance co (Progressive) who contracts with Duncan to handle their RV glass. They had a windshield in stock, shipped it express that day, had it installed two days later. I thought that was pretty good service.

Duncan glass clicky
