I bet that was scary!

I'm glad you weren't hurt and I hope you get it replaced quickly.

I got a windshield broken by a cement block at night (vandalism) on a tour bus and was able to get back by putting the clear package sealing tape on both sides of the glass and going slow. I was praying for no rain so I wouldn't need the wipers. I made it over 300 miles.

A friend hit a large bird in Arizona and it shattered glass inside his motorhome. He covered the inside and outside with clear packing tape and drove home to Indiana where he had the windshield replaced.

Think it best to wait for the insurance company. Some insist on controling who does this type of work

I'm with him. I would tape it up and drive home.

We had a duck go thru the drivers side windshield crossing the Big Mac bridge. On the next day on our way to Elkhart to get if fixed, a dump truck took out the pass side. Two windshields, two days, two $500 deductibles. Days like that make you question your travel arrangements.

There is no problem driving it, if it is broken all the way thru just put duck tape on it.

I see you met one of the many seagulls that nest around the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. From time to time VDOT brings in pellet gun shooters to thin out the flock.

I would tape it up and drive home. Get off the interstate and take US 60 to Richmond then take US 33 straight into Harrisonburg. Safety glass has heavy plastic sheeting between the inner and outer glass that should hold the windshield together to get you home. Tape it up and drive her home.

If you're not comfortable then you'll need to wait on the insurance to work it thru. There are two RV dealers on the west side of the bridge, Dixie RV (757)249-1257 on Jefferson Ave between exit 258 and 256 on I64. The second is Dodd RV (757) 833-3633 a bit further out on Route 17 near Yorktown. I don't think you're going to have much luck with either one expecting a quick turnaround. Windshields aren't something the keep on hand.

If you're going to hang out for a couple of days waiting on a replacement head up to Newport News Park at exit 250 on the interstate. Excellent Camp Ground with about 70 camp sites with power and water. $31.00 a night with a dump facilities on site with no additional charge. The only down side of the park is limited satellite TV because of the trees.

Good Luck
