Can anyone tell me if South Forty Camp Resort in Petersburg, VA is still in operation? (Their website is no longer on the internet). I would appreciate any information on campgrounds in the Petersburg area as we may be making a stop in that area in several weeks. Thanks in advance.

As far as we know it is. We stayed there in Feb. on the way to Florida and again on our way back north again. There really is not to many campgrounds to choose from in that area. We have stayed at South Forty several times. The last time we stayed in Feb. I got the impression that there were new owners so that may account for the lack of a web site. The phone number I reached them at that time was 804-732-8345 if that helps.

Thanks Dog's Dad. I will call and see what I find out. From your using them again on the way back tells me you at least found them worthy of another over night stay. The other campgrounds may be fine but South Forty looked to be the closest for easy off and on. Thanks for responding.

My DW's sister lives in Petersburg so we have stayed there several times as far back as when it was a KOA. It's not a resort, a little rustic but not a bad little place. The previous managers were very nice as are the present ones. It's the best of what is available in that area. Good luck.

South Forty is closing as of 1 Aug 2011. No reason was given to current residences.
I am currently in Picture Lake Campgounds off of I-85, and a lot of the South Forty folks are moving in there.

Thanks for all the responses. Guess South Forty is out. Grandress, how are the facilities at Picture lake. I'm thinking we will just be there for one night but we have an adult daughter that will be traveling with us and she doesn't like using the bath in the MH so I am especially interested in how clean the bathhouse is and if it is "somewhat" roomy. Thanks.

The bathhouse is decent. Spaces are about 20-25 wide and fairly level. Overnight spaces are shaded and pretty level. Have a lot of overnighters with the Virginia Motorsports Park right next door. Campground is quiet, pool is open 10-7, laundry, etc.
I have been here about 8 months and have been pleased.

WOW!!!! Thats sad to hear. We will miss them. It was always a good place to stay a few days when visiting or just to stop for the night.

Thanks for the info, gandress. We would like to make our destination in that one day but that may be a little much, depending on the traffic and weather. We will have to make that call when we get a little closer. Thanks to all. We know we can always count on the members of this forum to come through for us. Happy travels.
