We were getting tired of setting up the satellite dish, which means me, every time we move. I sold the DW on getting a roof mounted dish for Dish Network. The local recommended on-site, mobile RV tech wanted $300 to install it. For that money I'll do the work.
I was wondering if anybody had any tips on the installation and anything to watch out for. It looks pretty straight-forward to me.
Sailor 53,
Why not zip down to Camping World in Kississimmee and get a carryout by wingard and then all you have to do is just set it outside and it does the finding of the sat. all by itself....
My friend first installed an Aluminum plate on the roof of his motorhome to spread the load out over a wider area of the roof. He really likes it! Chris

The only thing I can think of (since we had ours installed) is be careful of the weight when getting it up onto the roof. I watched an installer do one at the Gypsy Gathering and I would not want to climb up there carrying those components!
Anyway, you will love your Trav'ler, don't know how we got along without it! Once in a while we run into interference from trees on the HD sat., but otherwise it works great.

I have the Winnegard trvlr 3005, running two Direct TV HD boxes - we love it. I bargained with our dealer, showing him various web prices, etc. , and got out the door for 1800. Even though straight forward, have to bring coax to two different tv locations, and run power to the dish and the winnegard control box.
In watching the installation, I was glad I didn't try to do it myself, even though I consider myself fairly handy.
Also, I can't tell you how many times people have asked for help with their "carry out" antennas - unable to get a signal. So, never owned one but I have observed several people with them have difficulty.
I carried a direct tv antenna and stand for several years, and love not having to set up the antenna, find the satellites, etc. Whether you do it yourself or pay someone - you will love the convenience and the HD picture is fantastic.

What kind of help did they need? You just set the dome on the ground and it finds the satalite by it self...

The carry out is just a power lead and a coax cable. I built a ladder mount for mine and it stays on the ladder unless we are a place that need to place the ant. away from the trailer
