Why not zip down to Camping World in Kississimmee and get a carryout by wingard and then all you have to do is just set it outside and it does the finding of the sat. all by itself....
The idea is not to have to set up anything outside.
I know you have your heart set on the roof mount but I know of several folks that did just that and it seems like everytime they park at the camp sites they dont get a good view of the southern skies and the auto system doesnt pick it up. You always want to park the RV under trees to keep it cooling better. The portable vesion works just as well with nothing for you to do except sit it in the area where it can get a clear view of the southern skies. Of course another down side with the portable is you have to secure it somehow to keep it from growing legs...
Now it does work at alot of places on the roof but that is a real problem not working all the time. I'd say probably 25% of the time it wont work for you based on what my faily tells me that has one....
Also I am just going by hear-say here.... Too rich for me to own one... Maybe others on here will dime-in on their success of picking up the SAT signal...

There is a BIG difference between a Carryout and a Travler. 1st the Carryout is not, and never will be HD on DTV. 2nd, there is no substitute for gain, and the Carryout simply doesn't have the reflector, hence gain. Is that a bad thing?.. Depends on where you're watching from and through (rain, fog, trees, etc. Also, that dome is a magnet for moisture, another satellite killer. Ask anyone with a dome. Not good or bad. It is what it is..
Sailor: If you are installing it yourself, just be careful when handling and lifting the dish, because it moves at will and is ravenous on pinching fingers.
I have both the Traveler and a portable Slimline dish on tripod for those trees that get in the way. I installed the Traveler myself. First, have someone assist you getting it on the roof-it is heavy and awkward to handle. I allways over-engineer everything I do so I screwed and glued a 3/16" 24"X30" piece of aircraft grade aluminum on top of my aluminum roof-then mounted the Traveler on top of that..
It is truly a "one button touch" system. There is a Youtube video you can search that takes you through instalation.

Same here...we also carry a portable slimline for those times when we're stuck under trees...we routinely ask to be out in the open, if available.
As to how well it works...the Trav'ler is pretty much flawless...turn it on and it does the rest. As long as there's no obstruction it WILL find and lock on to the sats. Hit the button when you're leaving and it stows itself...couldn't be simpler. In addition, we've been in 50 mph winds and get no digitizing at all.
You definitely will need two people to get it to the roof...the bugger IS heavy, but the install was pretty straight forward.
