I wanted a Crockpot for Christmas. After my DD bought me one my hubby said it would run down the batteries. He's really smart but could he be wrong??? The crock is 6 qts, we have a Roadtrek with 2 12 volt batteries (besides the one under the hood, lol) and some kind of charger/inverter plus a generator. I want to be able to prepare my meal in the AM & then go sight seeing and have a ready meal in the evening. Any suggestions??? Thank you.

Are you boondocking with out electricity? If so, you may have a problem and there should be others who can offer advise, but it you're plugged in to electricity, you will not run down the battery.

My crockpot is 170 watts at 120 volts or 1.41 amps at 120 volts. That equals 14.1 amps at 12 volts. Using the crockpot on high for 5 hours on 12 volts would use 70.5 amps or about 1/3 of one typical RV battery. Since you have two RV batteries, I think your husband is wrong. Why not just try it out and see what happens; you could even try it out in the driveway where it really isn't an issue one way or the other. Assuming that you take the roadtrek sightseeing, the batteries will charge while you drive.

IMO, with either 120 volt or 12 volt crock pot you will come back to a cold meal and a dead battery unless you are hooked up to shore power. If you run the generator you could do it.

If you leave a 320 watt crockpot hooked up thru an inverter it will draw around 33 amps from the batteries. If your 2 batteries are fairly typical group 27 12v deep cycle batteries they are about 100 Ah each. You really only want to use half of their capacity to maximize their life. This means you can only run the crockpot for 3 hours. However, their 100 Ah capacity is figured at being discharged over a 20 hour period. This means that discharging them over 3 hours will lessen their capacity. So, really, you could probably only run it for 2 hours.
To answer your question, no, you can't run a crock pot in an RV without being hooked to electricity or running a generator.

As mentioned you will run down the batteries without shore power. One of the beauties of a crock pot is that you can use it going down the road. Put it in the sink and turn it on and have a hot meal when you arrive at your destination.
