You have me convinced I need to go there but we can't get there until that time period. Are our chances good for cooperative weather? How about services, is the lodge open. Anybody been there in that time period?
Thank Bill

You should check their website. We were there last year in late Sept and the north rim was going to close in mid Oct.

We spent a few day at the N.Rim late late Sept., yes its worth it.

You can boondock in the National Forest, take FR22 about 4 mile in and there's a large area that is great for rigs like your. This will put you in the postion of being able to explore more of the NF with your toad.

North Rim NP closes down in mid Oct.

North Rim closes (as stated) mid October and hopefully reopens each year in June.

When going to a high-elevation area in the Southwest, we always watch the forecasts carefully, especially when we travel into remote areas during "shoulder seasons" (fall and spring). We check our NOAA radio to see if there is a snowstorm approaching. And if you have internet access, the NOAA discussions can't be beat -- kind of technical, but very comprehensive. Here is the Arizona site:

The lodge closes mid-October, but the campground stays open until snow closes the roads (the water is shut off, but porta-johns are available). We were there after the 15th last year, overnight temps in the 30s, with snow flurries. Any later than that and you are really risking getting shut out.

Like others have said, that time of year will be a gamble with the weather. Even if you get in, a sudden winter storm could have you leaving early (or stuck there!). I would suggest a back up plan just in case.

If you get there before the first snowfall, try boondocking at Timp Point or Noorth Timp Point on the Rainbow Rim mountain bike trail in the Kaibab Ntl Forest's North Ranger District. You can park your rig at camping sites on the rim of the Grand Canyon. From AZ Hwy 67, take Forest Road 22 west for about 10 miles, then turn left on Forest Road 206 for about 10 more miles and look for signs to Timp Point and North Timp Point. There are three other vista points on the trail where you can boondock, also.
