My family and I are planning a trip to Muskegon, MI. We are thinking about staying at Pioneer County Park Campground. Any opinions on this campground or any other campgrounds in the area? Thanks in advance!

Pioneer is right on the water, but sites are close together. We prefer Muskegon State Park (Lake Michigan unit), about a mile south of Pioneer. Larger sites and nice shade. However, if you are going before Labor Day, you might have difficulty getting in.

We just spent a week at Duck Creek RV resort. Very nice but a little pricey. We really wanted to stay at one of the county parks but they didn't take reservations and it was too far of a drive to chance that over 4th of July.

Duck Creek has level concrete pads, full hook-up w/cable, very nice pool, basketball courts, etc.

I looked at Muskegon State Park, but they just have electrical hook-up. I prefer full hook-up, but will settle for just water and electric. I checked out Duck Creek, but the prices are on the higher side, plus I liked the idea of staying right on Lake Michigan. I've heard that the park rangers at Pioneer County Park can be harrassing and gestapo like. Any comments on them? We are a quiet family of 7 (DW and I and 5 kids).

I looked at that park a couple of years ago but my plans changed. If I remember correctly they were cash only but that may have changed. Not a big deal just remember to bring actual cash not debit card. Maybe someone more local can confirm or refute that.

Duck Creek is very nice and worth the money IMO. It's across the street from Michigan's Adventure and very close to beach access.

I personally prefer the state parks but you won't get water unless you get a site at Holland.
