Being new at this, thought had better ask. About to buy a rock guard for the motor home to protect the towing vehicle. I noticed there are solid ones and others in strips and others in strings. Which would be better. I already have a rock guard on the tow dolly but thought one on the MH would be better still. Thanks

One coach we've owned had a broom like (stringy) rock guard which didn't protect the toad from dirt & rocks very well.
I'd never buy one of those over a solid type.

I found that the mud flps behind the duals do just as much good a that big long flap hanging down. Besides, I ripped mine off when I backed up in the drive way.

Do a search on this forum. This has been discussed many times, and the mud flaps behind the duals seem to do what is needed. The solid flaps at the rear have been said to throw up more rocks than having none.

I like the Ultra guard for a more finished look and to hide the custom sewer hose holder I built. I saw the 4" Rock Guard flaps sailing in a slight breeze, parked at a conveinance store, on someones rig when I was considering mine. The brush was not going on my ring period. There is a new device that works better than all of them.

some folks like this better

If we make the Alaska Highway trip we will have one.

I made my own out of a piece of rubber conveyor belting, its about 1/4" thick, and I made letters out of polished aluminum, "Islander", and pop riveted them on. Fun making it, and no cost except for the angle iron needed to mount it on the frame.

Mud flaps came on our MH and we didn't add a rock guard but did put a "LaBra" on the front of our Ford Edge toad. We haven't had any problem (knock on wood) during the towing.

We use and are very happy with the Protect-a-Tow (protectatow.com)in addition to the rubber guard on the back bumper of the MH.
